Never been off-roading before and would like to give it a try.

Is it not reccomended to go off roading if my Taco isnt 4WD?

Where are some good beginner areas in AZ?

    Thanks.

edit- title supposed to be off-roading*

Welcome, glad your getting in the dirt. 2wd just means you need more skinny pedal. Tons of guys are running trails in 2wd.

There are Miles and miles of trails around Florence that are all 2wd friendly. Most obstacles have bypasses.

I'm sure some of the Phoenix guys will jump in with more areas too.

Welcome. There are some pretty good threads in the AZ section that have trail info. You can also get this book Guide to Arizona Backroads & 4-Wheel-Drive Trails 2nd Edition https://www.amazon.com/dp/1934838195/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_6pqsBbYXQGQ23. Keep an eye open and you can find people to go wheeling with. Might have to wait till after the summer heat, lol. You can go to Bull Dog Canyon. You will need a permit, which is free. Just need to email them from here https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/tonto/recarea/?recid=35555. Montana Mountain is a good beginner trail. There is also a trail that will take you up to Mount Ord.

Instead of getting the book, buy the "FunTreks" App it's made by the same guys that write the books, but in a digital format. It also has easy to use navigation built in with offline maps and checkpoints already in the app. I just used it at the rubicon a couple days ago and at Moab a couple weeks ago and it worked out amazing. The easy trails in the app (or book) are generally 2wd friendly. Have fun out there and try to always go with at least one other person in case you get really stuck or breakdown.

Thanks, that is good info. Offline maps and checkpoints would be useful for new to offroading peeps.

even us more seasoned veterans... Just makes it easy running it in the background and you come across an intersection, glance over and see which way to go in a split second.
