So i have a 16 trd OR DCSB 4x2 and the dealer is making me an offer to lower my payment by $70 if i trade in for a 18. i could possibly trade in for a 18trd sport 4x4 DCSB and keep the same payment.. i do go offroading in my TRD OR right now and it works fine as im fairly experenced and know my trucks limits. my question is WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Depends how much you have invested in your truck such as new suspension, tires, etc. If I haven't touched my truck from factory then I'd try it

Don't let the "payment" be your guide. Look at the total cost

What @Itchyfeet said. I'd focus on how much your principal will be and how long the loan will be and not the drop in monthly payment. They always want you to focus on the monthly payment, which is a mistake. You want to actually figure out how much this is going to cost you overall. Unless somehow they're offering you this vehicle with the same loan terms you currently have, but that seem unlikely.

This. Never fall into the monthly payment trap. How LONG will you be making the payments ? Probly quite a bit longer? Total amount would be what you want to know.

I'd pay cash. Payments suck the life out of you and prevent you from doing bigger and better things later on in life.

Pay off your current truck as fast as you can and never make another payment in your life. Your 2016 will last you many years. After you pay it off, save up the cash to buy your next vehicle. You'll thank me later.

You must have looked at 4X4's before you bought your current truck? How often will you really use it off road?
Will the ride be stiffer on the daily commute? Gas mileage? Some repairs will cost more because the transfer case will need to come out.

If the dealer is contacting you in an effort to make a deal than you can be sure that deal is in his favor.

How many months is your current loan for? Tell them youll do the $70 cheaper for the same amount of time as your current loan and watch them squirm.

No matter how good the deal, the dealer is still coming out on top. I'm always skeptical when the dealer comes to me with this kind of offer.

    Tempting for certain.

So.....with what you've learned from owning your 2016 model......what would you like to do over ? What features have you wished you had ?

Could be a chance to zero in on the refinements.

I was in the dealership earlier today and poking around while getting my 10K service. Lots' of drooling over some of the trucks there.

It's situations like this that fuel my despisement of dealerships. They are truly high profile, unfortunately legal, scam artists from top to bottom.

Id say no go if you dont really use 4wd now, unless theyre offering the 2018 Sport at like 30k. Gotta think, you're restarting on paying another 60mo loan off. How much are they offering on trade in for your Taco now? Its about time for 2019s to hit the lot so the dealers are hungry to get the 2018s gone now.
