Tell them you want the same payment for the same amount of months you have left and same interest rate and see what they say.

If your going to do anything. Sell your truck private party, so that way you get the most from the vehicle transaction.

Then if you so desire to buy a 4x4, look into buying used 16’ or 17’, or if you really want to buy a new one, then work with internet sales and get plenty of quotes from all around where you live.

1.9% @ 60 isn’t a bad rate considering the Fed has been raising rates, and Toyota doesn’t have a incentive to offer 0%-0.9 at this time, but you never know what they have up their sleeve.

    I had a 2015 prerunner sr5 v6 4x2.
I got a flyer saying I could get in a 2017 for the same payment (4x2) I took the flyer to my dealer and said I want a trd sport arc hat price. Well they laughed. I said give me your best price in writing so I have a few days to talk with my wife. I then went dealer to dealer with the next offers , getting them in writing.
The last dealer got smart and said I’ll beat the price and make ya happy if you come in today. I bought my 2015 $23,998 msrp was $29k. Put 50k Miles on it and tires looked a little worn. I traded in my 15 on the ‘17 trd sport and when all said and done I got it for $23,998. Value was max . My trucks msrp is $38k and walked out the door at $24k . Plus in Wisconsin you get a tax savings on trade in so I got added $1,100 in tax savings. A step up to 4 wheel drive was the main reason why I jumped. If it sounds like a better , more economic decision, sure.

If it’s like my situation, the safety sense could actually lower your insurance premiums. My 2017 pro was rear ended in December. Bought a 2018 pro to replace it, and I’m saving $144 a year due to the TSS

This. And don't be afraid to give up "bonus cash" for better APR. You'll save more in the long run.

Better yet, secure your own low APR financing and take their bonus cash offer. :)

I went in and did this. They tried to ignore the offer. Bring the paper offer in with you or else you’re hosed.

The offer in the mail made it seem like I would come in and trade it up and drive away. It took me 6 hours of negotiating to make the deal fair for us both. I had to play hard ball. That offer just gets you in the door, it doesnt necessarily guarantee anything.

Just be warned: It won’t be easy, but I did it so you can too.

If you include the two years of payments you've already made, your 60 months is more like 84. But if you desire a 4x4, you'll probably be happier with the new rig. Just know you're locked in for another five years of payments.

I will always have a car payment. Once my vehicle is paid off I buy another. When you avg 30k Miles a year it racks up. Sometimes you can work the deals in your favor. Good luck buddy.

This thread couldn’t be posted at a better time. I’ve been bombarded with mail offers from the dealer so I ran some numbers thru my mind for fun. I’m 3/4 way done with my loan and they wanted to put me in another 5 years of payments with just $50 off just so I can drive the exact same 2018 truck. Sounds like a shitty deal to me.

Like others have said, look at the total numbers. You’re probably not going to come out ahead. Remember that every time you buy a vehicle you’re paying sales tax, DMV/ tag fees, etc.

Pay off your truck then start a savings account, making a monthly deposit into it; this way you’ll begin making a car payment to yourself and can save for your next truck.

Make good financial decisions and you’ll thank yourself later.

Selling private can be beneficial, but also be a pain to do due to idiots and test drives etc. Could work but not guaranteed to sell (especially since its 2WD).

Buying a used truck sounds great until you look at the prices of used vs. new. So close in price it’s hard to justify.

OP just do what your gut tells you. If you want new get new. If you want to finance then finance it for good terms and APR. Just remember, yes payments are a pain but they also help your credit and paying cash isn’t always the best investment in a vehicle (it holds value, but still depreciates over time). Just my opinion. Do what feels right and if you know a 4X4 will ultimately make you happier, get it and make the payments faster in something you really want.

Any dealer talking payment is trying to screw you, never talk payments with them, tell them to give you a price and deal with the payments yourself. Even when financing with them don't commit to anything until you know the out the door price, don't even let them run your credit until you have a written offer. Not how they like to do business, throws them off when they can't hide their tricks and BS fees from you.

Keep in mind as of right now, you have limited mods available to 18's due to sensors. Research it first.

I think all Toyota dealers use the trade in letter scam. It's like RAM dealers sending you scratch offs and you always "win" and have to come to the dealership to get your "prize"which is usually a $5 Walmart gift card or a $1 lottery scratch off. This is after you are forced to test drive something.....ANYTHING and get hounded for the next hour by 7 salesman and 3 managers. Then when they finally give up you can get your Walmart gift card or $1 scratch off.
