Let me know if you want any others.

One minor complaint I have are these feet sticking off the frame further than the mounts. Not a big deal in the grand scheme, especially considering it allows the camper to be used on the later trucks. Being I don't plan on downgrading from my 1st gen, I might cut and reweld these back closer to the bed rail if I find they get in the way of my packing, but probably won't bother.

Fit along the bedside if you're curious.

Thanks Brett. These are perfect and really show how well the camper fits on a 1st gen. The clamps look interesting. 5 per side?

It does fit on there proper doesn't it.

4 per side. Clamps are overkill if anything.

Honestly, looks like they made this thing for a 1st gen, and it just happened to work for the later models, not the other way around.

To my knowledge - yes. If I picked up the clamps that went into the track system, I could transfer it right over to a 6' bed 2nd or turd gen.

Nice. Still haven’t gotten around to playing with it but it looks like you’re thinking along the same lines I am.

The nice thing about grommets is that they are a simple, quick and pretty unobtrusive mod even if they don’t work out.

We are going to need many, many more pictures of this. Haha. Not having the little rain fly seems like the only oversight to me.

    Awesome!

On regular roof top tents the holes they drill into the tent body are angled almost horizontal which keeps the stays from turning inwards. That may be an option if you want to permanently alter the GFC extrusion.

Pretty sure some of us would split the 8 pack with you ;)

Is there enough extra material to make a pocket for or otherwise attach a straight horizontal support? Seems like a lightweight dowel or something could be attached across the bottom permanently.

If you buy an 8pk I’d be interested in two. To solve the collapse issue have the rods mounted inboard of the current location and angled outward. That requires a mount to be made but keeps the tension up and out on both sides. I was thinking a piece of slotted angle iron on the T slot would allow some experiementing on angles and seating location.

Good thinking - would also be a good place to use some of the extrusion t-nuts for the final mounting.

Just a simple aluminum block that attaches to the T-tracks with a horizontal, elongated hole would work. You would just need one for each side. If GFC takes my idea, I don't want a discount, I just want my camper sooner. Haha

That could work, it’s a pretty low stress piece so 3d printing might be an option to produce them easily. Not as fancy as a machined GFC solution but it would get the job done. Might need to split it into two pieces to get the spread between the poles right but that doesn’t look too difficult given the design.

I wish I had CAD skills.

There would have to be two of those brackets with only one hole in the center. One left and one right to be mounted to the tent body. The center hole is drilled almost at a 45 on a horizontal plane. Not sure of the exact angle though. On my old tent it looked like someone drilled straight in and then canted the bit to add angle to the hole. It wasn't very clean or precise.

Yeah I was just thinking cut that piece in half to spread the mounts out. Be nice to work something out that would play nice with using a ladder to get in and out the back window.

Some pieces of black delrin would also be a easy material to make something out of and would blend in.

I should have never sold my benchtop mill. What an amazing piece of machinery. These brackets in aluminum or derlin would be a quick and easy make.
