What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Lots of ways.

The 8.4 has a brace between the ring bolts. 8'' doesn't.

8'' on a tacoma has the locker actuator poking out of it.

8'' has a ratchet end on the ring gear for back lash setting, 8.4'' uses shims.

Rubbing is very very minimal, actually. You only rub the upper control arm at full lock when turning sharp, or you’re parking in tight places. That’s the only time I’ve ever noticed it.

I tried spacers. 1.25 makes it rub the mud flaps, and at 1.75 it rubs the frame quite rather badly.


I just live with it. It’ll go away once I have my new suspension on, hopefully.

 

Thats my plan. To live with it. I dont like the idea of spacers causing another potential failure point.

 

I’m sure the rubbing at the UCA will go away once I get my Icon 2.5’s and SPC UCA’s in. I just need that much space between the top of the tire and the control arm to stop it from rubbing.

 

Yeah. Someday I'll actually get a set of wheels with decent offset like methods or SCS and run a larger tire but college life has me making do with Toyota Takeoffs for now. But I read where the 2nd gen TRD wheel does sit the closest in of all the newer wheel styles. At least a quarter inch closer than my 3rd gen SR5's did.

 

Picked up some PVC and notice my ac was kinda 'ok'. Hm, gonna have to look at that.

 

You have to remember 2nd and 3rd gens have far less backspacing than we do. That’s why takeoffs tend to rub.

 

Yeah I just thought that it would be the same between Gen 2 and Gen 3. Guess Gen 3's stick out just a touch more.

 

This is hands down the cleanest first gen I have layed my eyes on. Not a single dent, scratch or fade in the plastic or paint

 

Either

A) he's taking that right pretty hard

or

B) his rear passenger side sits higher.

What’s this sensor on the passenger side of the trans. It has a broken wire and now I have the p1135 code

 

you sure its that sensor?

 

Just did the clutch, and plugged everything back in and noticed that and now have a cel that wasn’t there before

 

Looks like a reverse light switch.
