On my 6th 4x4 Tacoma since 1995 and have never had this happen. OP likely tried to disengage 4Lo while moving with the vehicle in D. OP needs to check all fuses associated with the 4wd mechanism and switch. Also needs to check the ADD to ensure that there are no broken or loose wires on the harness.

Have it towed. I wouldn't drive on pavement in 4X4 for any distance unless it were a matter of life & death. While the parts may not break immediately, you are damaging the transfer case. This is what the inside looks like. Every time you go around a curve it stresses the chain and it stretches. After a period of time it stretches enough that it starts to slip on the gears under a load. If you try take a sharp curve you'll break the shaft the gears are on. Either way is an expensive repair.

I have limited driving tomorrow (Sunday), I can limit the amount of turning radius (stress on front), and I’ve left a message with the nearest Toyota dealer to expect me first thing Monday morning. I however will need to be driving it, gingerly though. I’m not going to bang on the actuater anymore, or loosen any bolts so as to not void anything.

So say I get this thing towed to the dealer first thing Monday, and they’re not completely backed up. Any guesses on the avg turn-around to un-fu%# the transfer case or just get it back into 2WD somehow? Not to sound like *that guy* but I’m literally on an out of town itinerary with lodgings booked etc..

Depends on the dealer and what's actually wrong.

    If they need parts etc.

Could be a day or a few

That is what I saw.. fiddling your way into a voided warranty. Take it to a close dealer and see if they have a rental . If it's too far enterprise and if it's real far a flight back.

Yeah I’m not touching it, luckily I have AAA but it’ll be about 40 miles on a Sunday. There are rentals open as well, I have options at least. I love this truck regardless, and don’t want to fudge it any worse than it is.
