Removing paint transfer

So, my MIL parked in my blind spot yesterday and I tagged her rear bumper with mine backing out. Tacoma 1 - Solara 0. No damage to my rear bumper other than some white paint transfer.

Is there a recommended product or process to safely and effectively remove the transferred paint?

Hand buff or orbital? I don't have a buffer but could prob borrow one.

Wd-40 will remove the transfer without damaging the factory finish?

 

WD 40 will not harm paint. I used it to remove the TRD sticker from my bed.

 

Mineral Spirits would be my method.

 

Wd40 mineral spirits or lacquer thinner. May wanna try clay bar first you'd be surprised what a good barring can do .

 

Any mild scratch remover like Meguiars ScratchX should do the trick. A rubbing compound might be too abrasive for the bumper.

 

Hand rub 'Wizards turbo cut compound' (firm pressure) then 3M Polish (medium to firm pressure) , then a cleaner wax. The paint transfer will disappear.

 

Something like a cleaner wax, polish or compound (in that order of progression if the first is not successful) would be the correct method.

WD40 does not react with cured paint.
Mineral spirits will not react with cured paint
Lacquer thinner will dissolve paint. If you are cleaning the transfer off a non painted surface, fine. If off a painted surface, don't.

 

Acetone

 

Lacguer thinner? Acetone? No way in hell.

 

I have used Acetone to remove paint transfers a lot of times,it does'nt hurt your paint job at all,you don't want too rub it forever no,but just long enough too get the transfer off,then wax the area.

 

Steel wool. Or a flapper wheel.

Assuming simple polish doesn't work.

I may should clarify this is a color matched rear bumper on a TRD Sport. Not chrome or anything.

The progression of cleaner wax, polish, etc sounds like a good place to start

 

Actually lacquer thinner applied to a rag and then wiped on the marked area does work well in removing transferred paint. You don't want to leave a rag soaked in thinner on the paint for a long time; but wipes won't harm it at all. I've used it quite a few times. I actually just used both this weekend paining a truck cap to remove any wax residue. No paint came off.

 

OP, what color is your truck? Reason I ask is I had a similar incident and tried Maguires Ultimate with a light touch of a DA. It burned through the clear coat almost instantly. Mine is the Barcelona Red and the pros who do that factory color all the time say it is the worst of the worst to do anything with and to use only hand buffing. I had to have the entire bed side repainted.

 

Gliptone makes a product called vandal, works extremely well

 

ive used erasers before to remove paint on bumpers

 

Mr clean magic eraser...seemed crazy its worked a couple of times on paint transfer....
