That's a good idea. You can also buy a HG tester and test. The gurgling comes from an air pocket could be from a blown HG could also be from something else weeping but burning off externally and you never seeing it and now you are finally low enough to have an air pocket in your heater core and behind the T-stat. KISS randy. Look all over for an external leak if you need to rent a pressure tester and pressurize the system and look for leaks.

 

Thanks, I definitely plan on running a multitude of tests before forking over the cash to get it fixed. It's just that damn near everything I read on here is that gurgling=bad HG. We'll lets the tests do the talking though. Should be good learning process diagnosing it.

FUCK no. I considered it, until I started researching everything it entails. It's a hell of a process. It's not necessarily the taking it apart that scares me so much as putting that shit back together.

 

I have seen HG more often be misdiagnosed more than anything. Based on the age and mileage of your truck this is what I would recc. if it is the HG new chain, chain tensioner, and guides, heads to be sent off and machined and checked for valve guide wear cracks, new valve seals installed, any PITA hose replaced while they are in there. Tell them no taking a red Roloc disc to the head is not machining. Expect to pay 1g for someone to do it depending on price of all items replaced it could run closer to 2

Chain= they stretch over time and they will be off anyways
Guides and tensioner= again ware and cheap ins.

Edit: forgot it's best practice to replace head bolts even if they are not torque to yield ones.
