Frame Treatment

I have the 2003 Tacoma and still waiting for the dealers in my area to get outfitted from Toyota with all the equipment to do the frame coating on the 2001 taco's and later.
Have anyone of you guys had this done yet?

 

Had mine done a few months ago. Where in Jersey are you?

 

I had the frame replaced on my '04

 

I'm in West Orange right now, There are only 3 dealers in my area getting ready to do this treatment and it's taking them forever...

 

Yeah, they have to get EPA and fire marshall approval due to the nature of the material being sprayed. I had the same issue with my local dealer, but they pointed me to another dealer that was all set up. Had it done inside of one day. They gave me a snazzy, red Corolla to drive too.

 

I had mine done 1 week ago and my frame is still tacky. They offered me a Yaris S as a loaner. I'm surprised that it actually was a fairly quick car.

 

Mine is a few months old now and is still tacky, I think that it always will be. I got the Corolla to do burnouts, of course it took the parking brake and some gravel, but it did it.

 

Mine was done before i bought it but i have noticed that some of the coating has pealed off in places...Do any of you know if Toyota will do touch ups to the places that have pealed away??

 

I had mine done a month ago. It looks good but it is still real tacky. I've been holding off hitting the sand for fear of having a sand-coated frame when I'm done!

 

They told me that the coating treats the metal and even if it comes off, it will help protect the frame.

 

How does it treat the metal? Does the spray react with the metal in some way...otherwise I can't see how it will protect the frame if the coating comes off.

 

I suppose that there is some sort of reaction going on there. Either way they warranty the frame for an extra 15 years.

 

Semi-hijack...can someone tell me if I get my truck and frame inspected, and it fails, does toyota HAVE to take it back? I fear they'll inspect it and it'll fail, robbing me of my '96 for which I have no plans to give up.

 

^ I'm pretty sure from a liability stand point I'd say YES. The last thing they would want is for you to get into an accident caused by them not buying back your truck which they deamed it was unsafe to drive and you filing a 5 million dollar lawsuit on them. Plus it would be a publicity nightmare for Toyota.

I have driven through West Orange.

 

Due to the age of the vehicle, they may opt to buy it back, but with this last round they seem to be pushing the frame swap option with the dealers.

 

I had mine inspected 3 weeks ago...it checked out, and when I asked dealer whether he would apply a coating, the dealer said no...that my frame was fine. Hmmm?!. Not sure what to think of dealer's declining to coat. Any thoughts?

 

Where do you live? I guess it also depends on your region. Tacomas sold in the south tend not to have the same issues as Tacomas sold in the north.

 

It started as a gulf coast taco (TX), but is now in the upper-midwest. There isn't any (ANY) visible rust as of now...still "suspect" why the dealer wouldn't coat it though.
