Norris did something weird yesterday too. The family was going to run to lowes so I started it before my wife and I hopped in to get the ac rolling ( was 100+ here yesterday and I still can't park in the garage...) within a second or two of starting it made a really weird noise (I'd compare the noise to what it sounds like when you run over a plastic grocery sack with the lawn mower) it lasted just a split second. My wife and I both looked at each other funny and asked what it was. 4 or 5 seconds after the noise a tiny bit of smoke rolled out from the drivers side of the engine compartment, back near my door. It smelled hot and burnt. So I popped the hood thinking maybe a small animal had crawled in during the night and met the clutch fan on start up, but didn't see anything out of the ordinary in the engine bay. Ran errands for a couple of hours and never had it happen again and everything ran just fine while out and about.

That’s really weird. Maybe the smoke was something electrical burning? Maybe something shorted out? That’s super weird.

I had a gurgling sound in my dash about 5 years ago when I let my coolant overflow run empty. Topped off the reservoir and drove a few days and the gurgling worked itself out after the air bubbles purged from the system.

Maybe I just need to start by burping my system and seeing if it corrects it.

It would have been about the time the ac compressor would kick on, as it is delayed several seconds after start up. But the ac worked fine the whole trip and no fuses blew.

BUT....I think you are on the right track. It did smell electrical. I have been chasing an electrical gremlin for at least 5 years now. When I tow my trailer I blow a fuse. It is related to a spike in rpms (downshifting) and affects about 75 percent of the electrical on the truck.

Through reading on here. I believe I tracked it down to a connection on the ac compressor harness. Another member on here cut out a corroded connector in said harness and his problem went away. Last time I towed, I would turn off the ac button prior to downshifting and only blew the fuse when I inadvertantly downshifted.

I need to pull the drivers side front wheel and inspect all connection at/near the compressor.

Holy crap that sounds like such a pain. That’s weird that the shifting would cause the gremlin to show up. If you ever figure it out, I’d be very curious to hear what it was.

I have pretty much narrowed it down to:

    A. Corroded wire/plug on ac harness

    Or

    B. faulty magnetic clutch on ac compressor causing the compressor to not disengage when rpms spike, causing a overload on the circuit.

Just need to get in there and see if I can find anything visual to confirm my suspicions.

I have also ruled out the trailer as the cause, it's a symptom. The truck has blown the fuse twice without the trailer connected. Both times I was really putting my foot down to merge into traffic and the truck roughly downshifted and spiked the rpms far more significantly than it would during normal every day spirited driving.

Yeah. You can replace just the clutch assembly for about $150 from Ebay. I have thought about doing so when I replace my serpentine belt...but from what I have read, it is a PITA to get off the compressor.

This problem has been so frustrating off and on over the years. Has almost made me sell/trade in Norris on several ocassions.

Yea, the vacation is paid for. Just waiting for it to get here. Then it's party time. The lift is inevitable. The red grill ideal is appealing though

I think the truck is toast. Sell as is or part out would be a good way of getting some return on your investment. If you decide in the part out put me down for the $25 scangage $60 tube doors & $10 trasharoo. :anonymous: Prices include shipping :D

*Edit I kid I kid! I hope it is as simple as air stuck in the cooling system buddy. Would hate for you to have to pull from the other mod money pile to fix a headgasket.

Has it ever overheaded on you? Why are you leaning so heavily on the head gasket?
