My truck had 27k on ot when I bought it and I've been putting syntetic in it ever since then. Synthetic oil will always be better than regular oil, thats why it costs more. You get what you pay for with oil. I change oil about every 5k even though synthetic is supposed to last 10k. Clean good quality oil is the main reason modern cars last so much longer than they used to. Any modern oil is pretty good, but synthetic will keep your engine running better for longer.

CouchlessPotato-the number one cause of wear on an engine is during the start cycle. With synthetic oil due to the properties that are improved in them, the oil is stickier than conventional oil. Therefore when you do start your engine there is more oil present that has not dripped off and it then does what oil does and prevents metal to metal contact. Back in the day I had an old truck that required the valves to be set every 10K miles cold. When I removed the valve cover on that truck after sitting all night the insides were still covered with oil. Try that with a conventional oil.

make sure you only use amsoil or mobil 1 or else your motor might explode because according to tacomaworld experts those are the only two syn oil brands that are good

Educate yourself. Read bobistheoilguy forum. Tacomaworld is infamous for internet cowboys and their opinions on oil, half of which are useless.

That being said, the engine doesnt give a shit if you use conventional or synethic. It doesnt know the difference between expensive/fancy overpriced Amsoil/Pennsoil and regular old Supertech/Generic. The key with oil, you ready for this, just change it. That's it, its not rocket science.

Some perspective. My father in law. 2008 Taco with 425K, he changes his oil every 7500miles.
There are dozens of members on here that change at 10K and have 200K on the odo. The days of 3K oil changes are dead.

I change my oil at around 10k, heck Toyota changes your oil at 10k under Toyota Care, synthetic oil does wonders on that end for longevity
