    Our power went halfway out this morning -- I measured it at 66 VAC. That does very weird stuff to electrical and electronic gadgets, I can tell you that! The lights on the toaster were totally wonky, a motion sensor kept sensing motion where there was none, Some lights were sorta on and some just refused to bother. Thank goodness for generators. We were out from 5:00am until about 2:00pm.

    I was thinking that or a local utility dropped a phase. That happened to me in the winter. I had extention cords running around my house.

    Yeah that happened to us at work one day. Got weird voltage readings. Iirc it was like 60 volts.

    Had a very similar situation last fall, turned out to be our service entrance meter line, open neutral condition, before the meter so the power company replaced the line from the street to the meter socket on the house. I ended up replacing the meter socket and service entrance to my inside box on my side while they had everything off.

    Fortunately for my wallet this wasn't localized to my house. I wondered about that though; our transformer looks like it went up the pole in 1949.

    After 5 days without power, post Hurricane Sandy, I purchased a big generator & had the house wired for it.

    Have yet to use it as we've only lost power for a couple hours at most ever since.
