Honestly the trail in general isn't bad at all.
A few sections where there are some patches of basketball sized boulders you have to meander around but nothing 4 hi couldnt handle.
Like others have said, the trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle most of the time, with a few small turnouts to let others pass.
..and 4-5 maybe 6 trucks max is all that would really fit down there comfortably, assuming that its not already crowded.

The worst part is that hairpin turn by far. Had way more anxiety watching people make it than actually doing it myself.
We all got if with only a couple back and forths thanks to great spotting! @climbhigher23
Coming back up in the rain we used mts set on rock and dirt to get around that turn and I felt a major difference in traction.
All in all it was awesome, and the lightning storm just uped the anty a little ha ha.

And yeah @Tombiology70 and I went as far as you can by vehicle then explored a little more on foot. My clearance with a Snug top hi liner, prinsu rack and solar panels was mere inches. Really cool mine shafts with ladders that looked like they went up for a hundred feet or so.

Pics 3,4 and 5 were from the laurel lakes trail. Every day there was lightening and rain at some point. Never too much but enough to put on a show.

Also if you are 2wd I'm pretty sure you could make it with no rain... but if you can't get the traction you need to get around that turn I think it could get serious real quick. You may want to park at the pass and catch a ride down the rest of the way. Just my 2 cents.

I actually like that idea and prefer not to chance it in 2WD. Thanks for the recommendation.

@TacoSauceHB... How are we looking as far as attendance at this weekend's Mammoth trip? Are all of the 15 trucks still on board?

That's all I was getting at.... no traction in that turn and the back end is going to want to slide one direction or the other.:D

You're right brother. I have a ton of off-road experience, but certainly no reason to be stupid about it like I was in my 20's...& 30's :anonymous:

Yes we did- Pretty cool decline to the end but I wouldn't take more then two trucks to that point. If it's dry you'll have no problem with the hairpin just take it wider then you think you need to, I might have cut it to short and definitely made it harder then in needed to be o_O
