Show us your truck bed sleeping platform/drawer/storage systems

I originally built my platform to house my full sized spare. Mine is only a 255 though, so about 10.5" tall on it's side. I used 2x12s (really 11.25") with 1/2" ply on top, so total height of 11.75" I've slept on it before and it really wasn't too terrible. There isn't any headroom, but it's manageable as a place to just sleep.

 

Looks good .Looking at your mount with turn buckle was thinking maybe making L bracket to mount to bed bolt and side of 2x12s should give access to side compartments ?

That would have been a good idea! That's an old pic, and my set up has since changed. Though I was still able to store small stuff there fairly easily.

 

You can get the height you need to pull the wheel if you use thinner oak for the cross support and add spacers at the ends. That would replace the two 2byXs.
But, it may not work at the full width that you have. Mine has supports inside the full width.

Things are moving along. I'll do the other half when I return from a trip. Probably put in just over $200 for materials and a couple tools I picked up on slamazon for this project.

 

Awesome thread! I want to build a 1/2 platform, not so much for sleeping but to crawl on to reach gear in the front of the bed. It will have to work with two storage boxes I've already built that also serve double duty as platforms to stand on when we load and unload the kayak. I will probably build something like this that I found in another thread, and also add a 1/2 inch carpet pad to go easy on my knees. I still want to put some handles on my storage boxes. They are 2ft square, and made out of 2x6's and 3/4" ply.

 

Almost forgot, I finished the build; went super simple. 1 sheet of 5/8" plywood and a 2x6. I used the scrap end of the 4x8 sheet of plywood to fill the gap along the side rather than buy another full sheet of plywood. No complaints so far after half a dozen camping trips with it. Added a horse stall mat for a little extra padding and to keep things from sliding around. Then added a set of rubbermaid tubs under one side, leaving the other half open for skis and other gear. Taped down some old bike tire innertubes stacked up to keep the boxes from sliding into the open section. All works well so far, and on the cheap.

 

You look a little on the young side for that sort of project...

 

Makes for lots of sleeping space though! At least for half of us.

Yeah, he thinks his setup works great now, but in a couple of years it's going to get a lot more cramped.

 

And the truck may not carry enough food for his growing needs.

 

Not with Toyota leaf springs, it won't.

 

has anyone installed these bed brackets? I can see a value to the intent, especially if the tailgate is removed for double doors or a full hatch.

I put these on 2ish weeks ago since I have a topper. My bed was not bent yet, but they were on sale and I did it as a preventative measure. Requires drilling 3 holes on each side and removing tail lights. They fit nicely and don't really take up much room width-wise

 

Have something similar (ATH version) installed due to the same reason Funzy said.
