+1 on Comcast hate. They finally ran fiber for FIOS in the neighborhood. I was the first one to switch. Cheaper and so far more reliable.

    ^^^This exactly^^^^^

As far as CCCP goes, we switched to them after a 9 year issue regarding a old phone line we had not used in Years that they ( Verizon )were constantly billing us for. We had no choice.

Well, for the 1st time in 28 years I actually paid someone to cut our grass!!
The neighbors eldest son. I think he's 13. I asked his dad if his son could do it. He said yes...I'm wasn't sure if the kid was ready to do it. Anyway, he did a good job!
It was well worth the $20 I gave him.

Heh - no Pennsylvania thread would be complete without some Comcast hate. I also have them, but outages have actually gotten less frequent over the past six months (used to have to power-cycle the box every two weeks or so). What still gets me is the outdated infrastructure - WiFi slows to a crawl during peak use periods because of the limits on the cable lines. They do live up to the guaranteed speeds if you hardwire into the box via LAN cable, so I often use this workaround, and the monthly cost is so much less.

On the truck rot front - the shop I'm talking with is being great about working with me, and have offered that if I loosen everything up for them and preemptively replace the fuel tank straps, leaf spring bolt, and remove the bed so they don't have to cut anything or spend time worrying at the bolts, they can shave a few hours off their estimated time. When the rain stops, I'm going to pull the truck into the backyard and strip it and coat the rear frame with converter/encapsulator where needed, and spend a lot of time on that rot section using the internal frame stuff Eastwood sells (it's nice that they are just outside Philly in Pottstown). I was under the truck the other morning and picked out all the flake rust layers with my fingers and touched it up with a dremel wire brush, and was pleasantly surprised that there is a lot of clean metal all around the gap. It almost looks as if there was just standing water in the frame that needed a place to go, and that place was sideways. If it looks like I can stop the rust where it is, I may just leave it with the frame hole, or, as one body shop recommended to me, screw in/rivet some formed metal around the hole and not bother with the welding. All the images of rusted out Tacoma frames being DD'd give me hope, and that area doesn't seem to be under tremendous stress as it just supports the bed (I mostly haul light stuff - kayaks, bicycles, etc.).

I've got their minimum performance package - $29.99/mo for 5 mbps upload and some much higher number for download. It's a promotional rate, but when it comes close to the time when I have to re-up, I just call and threaten to cancel unless they leave the rate the same. Internet providers seem to have the same sales practices as the time share folks, just without the theatrics. It's not just Comcast, Verizon will do the same start high, quickly cave to a lower price thing too.

I'd prefer that too - once I get everything sorted to come off easily, I'll drive it by the shop for an actual estimate. If I can get it to sub-$1000, I'll pull the trigger.

I would say get the bed off and then look at what you got. removing the bed will make replacing the fuel tank straps easier and give better access to the problem area.

Hi Dan, was doing the same with Comcast to keep the price down. Negotiated with them and they gave us HBO and a couple of other premium channels. Life was good for two weeks when a guy called and introduced himself as from Comcasts auditing dept.. He told me we were getting services we weren't paying for and I told him they were negotiated with Comcasts sales dept. to keep us as a customer. He said because we weren't paying for them they would be disconnected. After a few heated words, he said that we weren't paying they would be disconnected and hung up. I went to those channels and they were gone:eek:. Called comcast back and they said there was nothing they could do. #*@kin' Comcast. First chance I had I switched to Fios and every two years I negotiate a new contract price and I have had no problems with them. Will I ever return to Comcast...NO F'in way
