It works perfect about 95% of the time.

It works really well on straight-away, flat highway driving. It has a few hiccups when you combine hills, curves, and slower speeds. The high-beams have been left on a bit too long in a few instances.

Our 2017 Suburban does the opposite. It has a lot of "false alarms" and turns the high beams off too soon, IMO. Then it waits too long to turn the high beams back on.

I love them personally. Living in an area with deer and hogs on the road, but also fairly busy, it's come in handy a could of times. Surprised it even senses the tail-lights. Should be a standard option to prevent all these morons driving with high beams.

    None... sigh
I've never had a problem using mine when I have run high beam. I don't run it all that much but it seems to work well.

I've used it several times. But it's not a perfect system. Sometimes when I pull up to a T intersection and there's a rock wall or tree across from me, the high beams will turn off until after I make the turn. Another example of the high beams turning off is when the vehicle approaches a hill in the road. Sometimes the system will shut them down since there's an obstruction of view for the sensor. In other situations, coming around a bend at night, often I'll see the lights of the other vehicles approaching before the system senses to turn off the high beams. There's nothing more that I hate than coming around a corner with a surprise high beam!

So, does the Auto high beam work, yes and no. Where I don't mind using it is on the highway where the road is stretched long enough and clearly so that the sensor can effectively detect oncoming vehicles or vehicles I am approaching.

Those complaining about it shutting off, you do know it shuts off below 20 mph by design right? Not sure if that's already been covered in this thread.

I enjoy the auto on and off. I work graveyard and and the majority of my ride is backroads. Sometimes it takes a while to get the auto on to work but after that its great.

This is a great feature...I use it a lot for dark back roads that have traffic. Works great - no complaints.

I have only used the auto high beams a few times and only on back country roads. If you have any corners with a vehicle coming it will react too late. Makes sense since it is forward facing and can’t see the car coming from the side. After the first person I blinded I shut it off. Haven’t really used it since. I’m sure it would work well on the highway though.

Mine stays on by default. High beams on, "Auto" is on and works good especially on those winding back roads

I think this feature is great. On my rural 2 lane roads it works perfect. On the busier 4 lane roads it does have a few moments where it gets confused by a high median barrier or street lights. I mainly drive on rural roads at night...so it works good for me. I am glad I have this function.

I hate it. I drive some flat straight Florida roads and it takes way to long to dim and will randomly dim with street lights or house lights. Driving through neighborhoods is like turning on a strobe light. I haven't found a condition that it provides any use. I also haven't taken the time to figure out how to turn it off because I keep hoping that I can find some use for it.

Reach down to the switch panel on the left of the wheel and push the button with the light symbol on it. Done!! That turns the Auto highs on and off.

I like the feature. It works well in certain road situations and not so well in others. Just learn to turn off and on as needed.

If I recall correctly, it’s not sensing headlights per say, but is picking up on the amount of light coming into the cab? :notsure:

Also, aren’t we able to adjust its sensitivity?

Are you suggesting people read the manual to find this stuff out? Hah! It would be quicker to just make a thread on this forum and put "You can't adjust the headlight sensitivity. COME ON TOYOTA THIS IS A $40,000 TRUCK!!!!!!!"

Then you will have twenty people chiming in to tell you how to do it.

Every time I turned the high beams on I thought about pulling out the manual to figure out how to turn off the auto lights. Sometimes it is easier when someone smarter than you can post the solution without having to spend 4 minutes searching the index for the right words of your problem. Thanks! @TC_Mike
