Cheap Bumpers on eBay!!

Any idea what these brackets are for? I ordered front and back at the same time. I know I was missing some stuff that they’ve since sent. However, I’m not sure where these go.

 

I have your same set up sos skids. I just went thru the bottom of the bumper only trimming was for the AC line.

I ordered/installed front and rear eBay bumpers as well. I didn’t have a piece like that.

 

So for those of you with a winch, are you leaving out the brace that connects to the headlight mounting brackets? Are you trimming/removing the brace for the lower grill mounts (2009)?

The AllPro instructions don’t specifically state you have to remove this brace but they do mention using a zip tie to secure the lower grill since the mount is gone.

 

Left it in since it still fit. Only used zip ties for winch cables as well.

Which winch do you have? I have the 10,000lbs H20 smittybilt, it must be a little larger, phsysically, than yours because you have way more clearance than I do.

If I leave my clutch handle in the current orientation there is no way I’ll be able to engage, disengage it.

 

I've got the smittybilt xrc 9.5 gen2..ya it's a bit more compact. I've got plenty of room for my meat hooks to disengage/engage

 

I tried cutting it and clutch still hit so I just unbolted it completely...the grill doesn’t mount to that anyway. Zero issues with it gone

 

I already pulled the winch out and rotated the clutch to the front, this will improve access anyway.

I’m going to trine the lower grill mounting bracket (just connect the “dots” on the 3 holes that are already there and that should give me enough clearance in the winch brace (the x20 has rectangle metal bars instead of the lower profile round ones).

No holes for skid bolts. First pic is where I marked where it is. Second pic shows a dirt impression of the other bolt head.

It's getting notched.

 

I actually clearances the grill support bracket more than this. Once I started soooling the rope on the winch I wasn’t comfortable with how close it was to this bracket. I removed it from the truck and cut the side off straight below the two studs. You can also see where I’ve already notched the back of the bracket where it slightly interferes with the winch support brace. There were 3 existing holes in the bracket, I just played connect the dots with my wiz wheel.


This is a good indication of where the back 2 holes were off on each side. I simple drill bit enlarged the holes enough.

This is how I rotated the free spool lever to the front of the winch instead of the top, this allowed me enough clearance to reinstall the horizontal brace that connects the headlight support brackets.

I’ve had my front and rear bumpers sitting around for almost 6 months. The primary reason I waited so long to install was a pure lack of time. I also wanted to color match the bumpers.

Over the last week or so I got the front bumper painted, notch done for AC line, lights and mounts and winch sorted out.

There’s a lot of random info in this thread without details on winch used, etc. I used the smittybilt 10,000 H2O winch, which in hindsight, wasn’t the ideal winch for this bumper due to interference with the grill mounting brackets and the headlight cross brace.

I made a bracket out of some scrap aluminum to mount my winch control box to the bumper itself (similar to what you see in the AllPro instructions).

I’m happy with the end result. I had to enlarge the two most rearward holes of the 6 mounting holes on each side of the bumper. Everything else lined up with the use of a floor jack supporting various spots.

I was planning on the same winch but ended up getting this x Bull 13k for free. My rope came close to that same support too.

Have slammed this bumper super hard into some rocks too.

 

Finally got this to align nicely! Had to notch lower part for front skid bolts. Going to have to heat and persuade the cross member to put those ghey end caps back on for 2 more mount points. Need to drill holes for the bolts that join the 2 pieces on the sides because there is little alignment between them, got only 2 bolts per side.
Work in progress. The above will get done when the winch goes in.
