How would you feel if another automaker built a truck that was a rebadged a and re-grilled Tacoma just like how Suzuki built the Equator off the Frontier.
How would you guys feel if say Kia built a truck that was a rebadged Taco?
You can imagine any automaker using the Taco but you know what I mean.

I would hate it, but that would be one more reason (for me) to not debadge the Taco. It does boggle my mind how some have no problem driving the knock off versions of great vehicles, but I guess money is the motivator.

Right...but 99% of the trucks here are debadged. I bet THAT would stop the debadge craze fast!

Meh, they have been doing this for years.
I actually think Ford should remake the Ranger into a Tacoma type of truck. Make it bigger like the Tacoma and better. Instead of doing that, they have decided to kill off the Ranger line.

The Equator is based on the Frontier and built by Nissan. For all intents and purposes, it might as well be a Frontier...bottom line, Suzuki and Nissan are in bed together on the project. If Kia and Toyota jointly produced identical trucks with different names, you only have yourself to blame for not knowing...

Just for the record, this isn't something I lie awake at night worrying about. A question was posed, "how would you feel if Kia started making a Tacoma clone". My answer is that I would still be glad I had a Tacoma.
But at the same time it would take something away from the prestige of being a Taco owner if I knew there was a cheap slutty sibling running the streets that could be mistaken for mine, or worse, my 'yota being mistaken for a freakin' Kia....brrrrr!

So you have no pride in your Tacoma?

You mean like the Pontiac Vibe and Toyota Matrix?

It's still the same vehicle. It just has a different badge on it.

Far as I'd be concerned, they still bought a Tacoma.

Look i'm just sayin, wouldnt it bug you alittle seeing a Tacoma wearing another automaker badge?
I guess it just bugs me that IF someone took the Tacoma and put their own crap on it and re name it then they would enter the compact truck world with the king of compact trucks. Know what I'm saying?

This is still a simple failure to understand what is going on when identical trucks/different mfgs pop up. If it's a re-badged Tacoma, it's still a Tacoma. There's nothing cheap about it.

i wouldn't mind at all, maybe it would get them in a price battle and the price would drop again. my parents bought me a brand new 99 trd 4x4 v6 when i was in high school and the price tag on it was 15500. 7 years later i bought myself a 2007 trd sport DC and the price was around 30k new. dont get me wrong i love my truck, but the price has gone up dramatically. I know im a hypcocrate since i bought one but these mid sized truck are getting too expensive IMO. you can get a full sized truck for the same price or sometimes cheaper haha
