I'm learning tips for when I do mine. Thanks! Why would a 4 runner dust cover work but not a tacoma cover? Is it a critical part or could it be left out?

Apparently they are shaped differently and are larger to accommodate for the bigger rotors

I would assume they are bigger since the 4Runner comes with 17” rims stock and Tacoma’s come with 16” rims stock

Do you know if they'll fit on 16" rims?

I have no idea. I haven’t had 16” rims since I purchased my truck. I went right to 17” and now I will be going to 18”.

I just installed it last night. I literally spent all night doing it, once I started I couldn't stop, from 12am-6am. Hardest part for me was getting a good seal on the Motive Brake Bleeder (dont ever get one of those, they suck so much), and then cutting the dust plate with a dremel. I got brake fluid EVERYWHERE. I was using my cell phone as a flashlight because I didn't want to go back upstairs to grab one, and it's so caustic it ate thru my phone case within 2 hrs. Crazy.

Anyways I only bled the two new front brakes, not the back ones. Now I have a mushy pedal, but thankfully the truck is still drivable. I got an ABS code later this morning after pumping the pedal a few times. So there's air in the ABS. I ordered a mini techstream off Amazon so hopefully that bleed will take care of the issue and I can actually feel the difference in the braking.

They do. It's a tight squeeze but it fit on my 16" TRD Pro stock wheels.

So it seems like the markup on these parts is insane. I was sent the brake lines, rotors and pads directly from StopTech in Compton, CA, and it came with the invoice - less than $200. The calipers came from Florida, not sure what the price is on those, but it cannot be worth the $1500 I paid for the kit. It's just a combination of different parts that happen to fit the 16" rims.

It isn't crucial. The kit actually comes with a spacer that you're supposed to install in place of the dust cover. If you are 2 wheel drive then the dust cover can be easily removed. If you are 4x4 though you won't be able to unbolt the dust cover, you'll have to cut it. I used a dremel and went through a few 1 1/2 inch metal disc blades. That was the most time consuming part of the install (besides the bleed, which was a total bitch, and I'm still not done.)

I don't doubt the insanity of the markup. If you've ever been to SEMA, you'll be amazed at the sheer # of mass marketed multi disc caliper manufacturers and how cheap it really is. Same goes for HID and LED stuff.

I wonder what the ST-60 red calipers cost? Those two are the only parts that I didn't get an invoice for.

You're good then. Just make sure you have a good way to bleed the brakes.

Maybe I misunderstood but can I source these parts online and save money over buying a kit? Or would that be a mistake?

    ...too much shit to list.
You can't even buy the calipers directly from Stoptech or anyone else for that matter. They will send you over to SOS anyway.

I’m still unclear how you came to this conclusion. Seems like a good deal for a complete BBK that he had to spec out and create for guys that asked to run 16s.

It's the ST-60 caliper. That's the only part I couldn't find online. I'll check the invoice today when I get home for the other part numbers.
