Cleaning the AFE Pro Dry S drop-in?

I've searched a lot of threads and wasn't able to come up with any details on cleaning this filter. Some say: "tap it on the ground & vacuum." Some say: "Use dish soap." My question is--How exactly, do you guys use the dish soap? Do you soak the filter in soapy water, or spray the filter, or what. I've also looked at AFE Power website and they don't have any instruction either. I know a few of you guys have done it, so was hoping to get details on the process and what seems to work best for you. Thanks for any help.

 

I only wash mine with warm tap water. I use the sprayer on my sink and let it dry overnight. I've never used soap of any kind.

 

I've yet to clean mine. But when I do, I'll tap it first then soak it in warm soapy (dish washing soap) water. Then I'll spray in out...opposite of the direction of air flow first.

 

This is what I just did. Not much dirt, but was my first cleaning of the AFE filter. May be placebo effect, but I could swear I got a 4.2 second 0-60 acceleration time...HAH JK. But try it. Plain Jane Taco has it right.

I just got one and now I cant find the instructions... so from memory: the 1st photo showed tapping the dirt out for 86% clean,
next photo showed the vacuum for 96% clean,
the last photo showed it in a sink for 100%.
I dont recall if it did or did not mention soap,but it seems reasonable a steady flow of slower warm water in reverse from the air flow would clean it as good as it would need to be.

 

^That is correct. I do believe the 3rd photo did specify soapy water. I would (and will shortly) use very little soap, though.

 

I have cleaned mine in the top rack of the dish washer. Worked great (only if she new ha,ha, ha)

I have a AEM Brute Force w/ AEM dry cone filter and I bought a AEM cleaning kit 3 years ago and I still have it unopened. My method is bucket, water, soap and spin the cone with my fist in the middle, let dry, reinstall.

I cleaned mine a couple of weekends ago. I let it soak for 5 minutes in a bucket of water with a couple squirts of dishwashing liquid. Then hosed it out and let it dry in the sun. The filter did not look that dirty and it had been in for a year and 10,000 miles. But, when I dumped out the water from the bucket, it looked dirty. I would suggest letting it soak for awhile will get more dirt out than just hosing it out.

I Googled it and checked Amazon. Put it on my wish list at Amazon because when I hit $25 I get free shipping. On an item like this which is $10 shipping would be half the cost of the product. If you get it and use it let us know what the advantage is over the dish soap method everyone seems to be using. Curious since dish soap is basically free, everyone has it already. Thanks.
