Heading on a Saco River trip this coming weekend. I wanted a rail rack system to carry kayak and Thule box. Eventually probably going to purchase a victory over landing set up... But for this weekend this will do fine
I don't have time to order the rail rack bolts online before the weekend so I started messing around.
I tried using the cargo tie down things that come stock in the truck. I used 90°unistrut angle brackets bolted to 6" flat brackets. I than bought a cheap rooftop crossbar rack at Ocean State Job lot, ripped off the"feet" and bolted it to the flat bracket. It worked well, but I wasn't able to get it tight enough for my liking. So off to the hardware store...being an electrician I'VE worked with unistrut very often so I was hoping to get spring nuts... but no luck... so I went with elevator bolts and square nuts...pics and more to come as project progresses.

Just a bit of paint on the brackets I built and it should look pretty sweet.

Has anyone out there tried spring nuts in the track system?

Pardon if this is mentioned elsewhere, I searched and this was the first relevant thread I found.

I am about to add the unistrut rails under the bedrails. What I don't understand, is how to get the hardware up in there between the two walls of the bed. I haven't had a chance to lay under the truck and examine it yet- is there some plastic I need to remove?
