I'm far from redneck and I've lived here my entire life. All of my friends are the same way. However, now it seems like a lot of kids feel the need to act or dress redneck because they do live in the south, which I think is just plain retarded.

Back to the original post, I think it looks cool

it's like the swastica (sp) it used to be a very common symbol, having nothing to do with racism or hatred..... Coca-Cola even used it in some of their advertising, and it was seen as a symbol of luck, but being associated to a negative event can ruin just about anything.

    just for refference http://www.wired.com/images_blogs/table_of_malcontents/images/2007/04/03/picture_2.jpg

i believe that most people who fly the confederate flag do so with a meaning behind it, but very rarely is that meaning racism these days (though it still is ocasionally).

No! Racism is a symbol of Racism. Sensitivity is a strong symbol of Victim-ism! Tell American Indians that the Swastika is a symbol of hate - to them it is a sign of life. I for one would love to promote the sense of personal responsibility and take the fucking victim-ism the hell out of this world! Take personal responsibility to a new height and keep a sense of humor!

The Civil war was already a couple years in before the Emancipation Proclamation was even put into place. And like you said, it was only for the southern slaves, not those in the north. Besides, most of the south didn't even own slaves. It was the wealthy that owned them. 80% of the people fighting for the south were fighting for States Rights. The choice to run their states the way they wanted, not the Federal Government.

Maybe because the media and others have portrayed it inaccurately like this? As if everyone in the south are all Dumb Rednecks running around waving confederate flags and shooting guns everywhere.

Not true, but there are a few dumb people that like to use the flag as a symbol of hatred.

I know "idiot" is a pretty vanilla name to call someone....but lets not have this on devolve into a name calling North vs South thread.

Not to mention the OP opened the door to all sorts of comments by asking an opinion question about a controversial subject...

Ya know what though. I want my own flag, colors or whatever. Every other group has their thing. Why can't I have something like a flag to represent my heritage. Born in the south. Redneck. Ok maybe, but if the Spanish, African American, Gay Pride, Military, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Band Geeks, Colleges, and even Tacoma World all have their flags/banners- :yay: Why the hell not Southern Pride!! :yay:

    Damn Yankees!!!

The swastika has been around long before the Nazis adopted for their own use. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika
