Problem isn’t that they have printers, but that the employees refill the paper. As many have said - luck isn’t normally on your side as to having paper in the printer. It will instead say “see attendant inside”. Which we all know means getting in line behind the guy buying cigarettes with change, the guy buying a complete lunch, and the cash guy who wants $10 on pump #7.

I always liked and used seafoam. You can get it at Autozone.

While I hate seeing "receipt inside", it's a pretty rare occurrence for me. Probably less than 5% of the time it won't print at the pump. I've got a fuggin' glove box overflowing with em lol.

95% of the time I pay cash when buying fuel, suppose I should start asking for receipts.

I never get receipts if it doesn’t print one and standing in line inside to get one is ridiculous. They should do their job and fill the paper. Same reason I hardly ever go through self checkout in stores. I’ll be damned if I’m going to get everything I need with no help from employees what so ever and then have to fight the stupid machine to checkout while the employee watches me. I’m the one paying. Chances of me pumping the wrong fuel is so slim I’ll take my chances lol. Not only that but they have security cameras so proving I bought from there is not an issue and if the problem is as crazy as OP had, others will be making the same claim.

I was under the assumption that the ticking is fuel injectors. All engines are different and some are louder than others. Makes since they are louder at higher rpm and quieter at lower rpm. Could also be valves that make that sound but I know and have ridin in OP’s truck and that’s not it.

That happens occasionally but I’d say I’m able to get a receipt 95% of the time. If not, I’ll write down the transaction details on a post it and put it in my wallet.

I honestly don't remember the last time I got a receipt from the place where I get gas. If they fill the paper, they must use the mostly-empty rolls from the cash register inside the store.

But I really don't worry about it. I buy all my gas from a local station. I pass the owner's house every morning less than 60 seconds after backing out of my garage. Last year when he inspected my old truck, he misplaced the key. Since he was obviously having a REALLY bad day, and the fact that it was a regular key that cost me less than $2 to replace, I told him not to worry about it. One day about 9 months later, he saw me getting gas and came running out of the shop with my key. He said he found it the same day he did the inspection when he was closing up for the day. He said he tried to drop it off at the house, but nobody was home. He just happened to step outside this particular day and see me getting gas, and it reminded him that he had my key still. Long story short, he's a local guy that I know can be trusted to do the right thing if there's ever a problem.

I think any big chain will do the right thing for pr reasons. And don’t forget if all else fails that’s what we pay insurance for.
