well add another 3rd gen to the hpfp chirping in the engine, well see if my local stealership fixes it or give the standard...."normal operation" Sdie note: I heard switching gas sometimes fixes that....any thoughts. I typically use shell, so off to chevron it is.

I have a 17' and have had the issue from 3 months into ownership. Always use the same gas station and brand, Shell. If I use regular I get the chirp, if I use mid-grade or premium no chirp at all! I have done this test off and on every so often since I noticed the problem 13 months ago and every single time I put regular grade in it chirps at idle. I mentioned this to 3 different dealers in the area and they attributed it to "normal operation"

I have since learned to live with just ensuring I use mid-grade/premium from the same gas station. I do notice that the truck has less hesitation on acceleration at low rpm using mid-premium grade as well.

I always use 91, shell. Switched to chevron 91, well see.

I have a 2016 with almost 40k on it, and it just started chirping. So annoying. Back to the dealership later this month I guess- this truck is wearing me out.

Damn. I hope this doesn't happen to me. Mine was replaced 5k ago and I hear no chirps whatsoever anymore. Hope it stays...

For those that have had the HPFP chirp, does it get more rapid with engine RPM? My idle chirp has just gotten a lot louder recently (almost 30k miles) and sounds a lot like the videos in this thread but mine seems to fluctuate as the engine winds up and down. Is that a sign that it's probably a pulley/belt/tensioner?

Mine went away with increased rpms. Chirp should only be audible at IDLE. IDLE.

Unknown lift, maybe 2" I don't know how to ID it, and would rather set it back to stock.
Well, don't keep it a secret...........

Well after paying extra for ethanol-free gasoline and Lucas additive for years ... and with only a few months of warranty left on my '16 i decided to fill 'er up with regular and went for a nice long ride to get it to full operating temperature and then drove it straight to the dealership (with the TSB # in hand) so they could hear that super annoying chirping in all its glory!
Two mechanics had a listen and before you know it i was booked in for a new high-pressure fuel pump and i haven't heard the chirp since PLUS i have saved $$ by not having to search or pay for non-ethanol gas!!

Hey guys, I have a loud squealing/cricket noise coming from my truck. 3rd gen, TRDOR with 19k miles currently. I read through this thread and it seems to differ from the fuel pump issue because it’s not there during idle but increases during throttle. I thought I’d start by posting in here to see what you guys think? Pulley?

The chirping has been coming and going ever so often on the 2017 TRD Off Road that I drive. It’s recently come back. It’s got close to 48K miles and I haven’t had the hpfp changed. I’m planning to try and get it changed out soon. With all of the successful replacements of the hpfp’s in these trucks, has anyone ever heard of why the hpfp’s chirp? I haven’t read all of the posts in this thread, but from what I have read, it seems to have something to do with perhaps the fuel being used having ethanol and or the temperature of the hpfp, fuel temp, or engine’s rpm. Wth, Toyota? Get your QC act together! The truck looks very silly going along chirping like a cartoon dog that swallowed a whistle.

I got this today. Normally get Chevron e89 but filled up from near empty with Shell e91. After 20 minutes or so I began to hear a subtle slapping noise from the engine bay I was working was detonation or knocking, which got a bit louder as I let the vehicle idle. After letting the vehicle idle for another 20 minutes or so it began to sound like there was a swarm of angry crickets under the hood.

Does the TSB cover the 2020 year?
