I saw some guys shooting off to the side of the Redington road when we were headed out to Chimney Rock last weekend. I had no idea you could go shooting on federal land like that! are there designated areas you have to stay in? Anyhow, we are headed to Phoenix tomorrow otherwise i'd meet you out there.

Just have to practice safe shooting. Most of the chimney rock trail is owned by bellota ranch. Stay away from watering holes, livestock and keep off the road a ways and your good

I don’t shoot on the bellota anymore. I sell hay to the owner and he heavily frowns upon it. Someone’s been killing his cows, told me 5k dead or alive on the bastard

I saw plenty of bullet holes in stuff they shouldn't be in. Mostly signs, many cut in half or not even recognizable they had been shot so many times. I couldnt help but think what was getting hit in the backgrounds... As someone who has been shooting since I was 6 yrs old and grew up shooting with responsible individuals, it makes me cringe when i find signs shot up, empty boxes of ammunition, and cartridges for as far as the eyes can see. There is definitely some abuse of the privilege. Coming from Texas, I can tell you it is most definitely a privilege. Almost all of our land is private, and you sure wont be shooting on any public land. If these ass hats keep it up, it could end up being the same here..

I'm deff in. My coworker from NM says there's not much in Gila NF for truck camping/4x4 (a lot of groomed roads or a TON of hike/bike/horse) but he did show me a road outside the forest that we could do on our way home.

Eitherway, it looks beautiful out there from the pics. Very Chiricahua-ish. Even more high elevation there.
