The good news about competition is that it will likely [should] force some better innovations in the segment. For me personally, I hate fucking Fords...except for the '93 Cobra I had when stationed in VA.

I am not a ford person

That said I used to think that competition from ford and Chevy would improve the tundra. Hasn’t happened

    Toyota seems immune to competition:(

Agreed, and even across their own line...one of the biggest reasons I went from a Tundra to a Tacoma was the feature set.

Nope. If anything, Ford's Ranger will have a major impact on their own F150 sales. When ford released it's info and price points on the Ranger, I did did a feature by feature comparison and to get a comparable mid grade Tacoma with the Technology Package, Ranger owners will end up spending more money for the virtually the same feature set. The Rangers' base model price point was a tad less that the Tacoma too.

Ultimately, as folks have said, only time and sales figures will really tell the story. Pre-media hype is nothing more than sales pitches at best. Toyota will likely have to step up their game though.

More proof that the mainstream auto magazines are completely disconnected from reality, to the point of not being worth the paper they're printed on.

High sales don't automatically mean high quality and reliability. Toyota needs to do better. Nobody is perfect, but there are a number of defects or customer sat issues in the 3rd gen platform that are unresolved.

Agreed, and well said. Unreliable American big 3, with huge sales numbers, prove your point.

Agreed. I can't believe people spend 60+ thousand dollars on the trash from GM, Ford and Dodge.

Yeah I was thinking about waiting for the new Ranger, since I owned an old 90s one and remember it fondly-- let it go at 250k. But the price didn't seem any better than the Tacoma, and I'd be wary about buying any 1st-production-year vehicle. So then I'd be looking at buying a '20 or '21, and that was just too long to wait to "see" if the Ranger compares. No thanks.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
What's sad about the whole deal?

That any of these trucks are considered midsize.

That there is not really any significant competition in the segment. Options, yes. Competition, not so much.

That you can't really 'order' what you might want. You just have to find an 'allocation' that's close enough.

A neighbor down the street has a G63 AMG, Tesla X, Tesla S, 911 GT3 RS, and a AMG-GT Coupe. His garage his open most of the time, as I come up to my house. Other day saw a new F350 Long Bed, dually. I stopped by asked Rich about the truck. Showed me around, paid $93,000 for it! Its his "tow" vehicle for his 911.

Cause they make nice trucks. Well except for dodge. My buddy has a 15 z71 sierra and that truck is wayyyyyy more equipped than a tundra.
