so a friend from work brought up a discussion on how to make extra money... tree clearing after storms and such...couple hundred to thousand for a weekend sounds awesome, what does not is it's 90+ degrees and humid or its raining off and on....pretty sure i'm going to try it out for awhile... my question is what do you do and why do you do it? to fund the truck, to catch up on bills? mine would be just to have extra funds for when i need them..

I take on extra jobs when I want something and I want it faster than my budget will allow me to save for it LOL

I took on 2-3 extra jobs ontop of my full time job to pay cash for my Tacoma. SO told me I could get it if it didn’t impact saving for a home.

I take on detailing jobs when I want more detailing stuff so it “pays for itself”.
We just got a new home and when I’m done doing our massive remodel I’ll do weekend detailing to pay to replaster and paint the garage plus epoxy the floorsand get me all new shelving/work benches.

As my truck nears 100k I’ll probably take on handy man jobs to pay for a new suspension/lift.

Plus sometimes I use jobs as an excuse to buy shit then I use the cash I make from the job to pay myself back.
I want a new saw so I’ll line up some jobs making a few furniture/decor peices for friends enough to pay for the saw lol

    Side hustles:
    Landscaping
    Handyman
Ranch work for a family member
    Auto detailing

I do things that take only the time and effort I want to put in.

Look at my signature for links to what I do. It started with making my own license plate bracket since I did not like what was available. 4 more designs later and I now offer 5 different brackets. Not every penny earned goes into truck mods but the vast majority does.

i know some guys on here sell stuff as a side job or a hobby i was mainly wondering if or what people do that don't sell anything on TW...didn't mean to sound like an asshole.. some of your guys side gigs sound way more fun than sweating and beating up a trailer for some extra cash...maybe i should take some of this side money and buy a camera and a computer and start thinking outside the box

I stand beside the road with a "Will work for food" sign. Not really. I do yard work and odd jobs around the neighborhood. I'm old but there are a lot of older folks that can't do a lot of simple tasks.

@ACEkraut anything counts in my book, where i'm at its pretty limited as to what kind of side gig you can think of, this place is covered with mobile car washes, tree trimmers, photographers, rolling food places, laundromat cleaners, hunting processors, vinyl makers ( shirts, cups, auto) and wood makers from a shed LOL and lawn care specialists..

For "Tha Gram" .......I don't have any talents like singing, dancing, writing, thinking abstractly and or have the freedom to get away from family/job in search of the truth and document it on social media. I just work OT shifts and make due.

    Good thread.
I buy and sell things I'm knowledgeable about; primarily 90s Land Rovers and High-End bicycles/gear. Buy low, Sell high

It helped pay for a lot of college while I was there. I have slowed down signficantly over the past year or so but still scour classfieds often.

It's fun and extra beer money never hurt anyone

You would be shocked at how easy it would be to get a handyman gig going. Lots of people need help with lots of little piddly things that the bigger guys want to charge too much for or the job is just too small for what they do. Charge a reasonable price and do a good job and word will spread like wildfire until you are turning people away or scheduling far into the future.

    In for ideas.

I wouldn’t mind a part time job at a gun shop or working on a farm. I’d have fun doing it and if I was making money too, all the better. Prob is I’m too busy with my “real” job and other hobbies like Jiu-Jitsu and working out at the gym.

    Seriously.

I heard someone at work bitch a plummer wanted to charge her $300 to install a kitchen sink.
I was like “I’ll do it for $50”. Took me an hour.

It crazy what a lot of people will charge for simple things.

    I have a small welding/fabrication shop.

Mostly build and repair small trailers. I build an occasional boat to mix things up.IMG_20180704_075523.jpg IMG_20180613_072920.jpg

I guess it's a perspective thing. I grew up working on a farm and I didn't find it at all fun. Shoveling out horse manure from the barn, Slopping the hogs, feeding 80 rabbits, loading and unloading trailers full of baled hay, etc. It's making me exhausted right now just thinking about it.

    Think about this.

Can anyone stay in business making only $200 a day? I'm sure that plumber would love to do that sink job, but he can't afford to. Sorry to derail, but the pros need and have to charge more.

When you have to run a business and make payroll, run vans, pay taxes etc. yeah you have to charge more.

Thats the advantage of a side hustle vs an actual business.
