I use gutter mounts to carry a 13' kayak and paddleboard. Over 80 pounds combined and lots of "lift" going down the freeway with no issues.

As we neared the north end of the WABDR, it'd been a fun but relatively easy trip. I don't know if it was more experience than we had on the OBDR or if the route was just easier - but @mrs.turbodb and I were happy to finally get a bit more technical trail (even if it was a side trail) for the excitement.

And then, there was the excitement at the border...

Has your buddy with the FJ tried his tent facing the rear? I have almost the same setup with a passenger side awning and rotated the tent for this season. Worked great, the tent covered the back door from rain/sun and the awning was easier to use as well.

Thanks brother, I’ll pass that along. He’s got an ARB awning set up on the drivers side, which would come in handy. We’re rookies at this but have got a big trip planned in August so I appreciate all the advice I can get.

Hot on the heels of the WABDR trip, we re-provisioned and headed out again just 17 hours later - this time to Idaho to meet up with a couple fellow TWers. Our ultimate destination being California, it was a bit out of our way - but in the end, so worth it. If you've never been, the Sawtooth's are amazing.

Anyone with an RTT in the bed of their truck surf? I want to know if you have issues transporting your longboards in a short bed with a RTT.

I don't surf or have a surboard but I had my tepui ayer on a pair of relentless tall bed bars and would occasionally carry a kayak. The top of the ayer is just about flush with the top of my prinsu cab rack. I would lay a kayak on top of both of the cabrack and the tent and strap it down. Never had issues with that setup.

I know on my GX, the door wouldnt clear the ladder unless the tent was hanging like 2 feet off the back.

I surf and have my RTT mounted, I actually can fit two 10 Feet boards in my bed. I have my RTT mounted on Relentless Fabrication Tall Cross Bars.

Perfect. You have 3 bars or 2? Do you have them diagonally in your bed hanging the tail of the boards off of the tailgate? I was thinking about either getting those bars or the ones from bamf that are 10”
