@gnardoggie can you post a better pic of how the actuators are mounted to shell.

Yea - I can try to get some tonight.

They essentially have a mounting plate that goes underneath through a hole in the flange of the shell and then their bracket sandwiches onto it.

If you're feeling motivated and confident, I'd be curious for you to raise the shell and give it a shove from the top and see how solid the setup is like that. Can you easily shake and sway the truck? That would surely make me more confident.

Another question, does the camper shell bolt to the bed with any other attachments other than the actuators? I'd also love to hear how it holds up to washboard roads and stuff. And if you feel like jumping it.... (kidding)

    Have a good one-
    Mike

I've done that. There is some play in the system, but nothing that seemed too concerning from my perspective. I'll have to get a full test in this winter.

The shell bolts to their brackets, which bolt to the actuators, which bolt to the bedrails and the bed. I've taken in on FS roads and haven't seen any shifting or movement. It seems to be just as secure as the bedrail brackets that I used previously. The actuators get installed slightly elevated from the lowest point which forces the cap to clamp solidly onto the rails when lowered completely.

Might be relatively straightforward to X brace it with nylon cam straps at sides and cab end. In theory your diagonal strap lengths will max out in the elevated position, so you could just tighten once at full lift and allow them to droop when in lowered position.

Obviously bracing the end of the bed is tricky since you’re getting in/out through there.

Self tapping screws for the top cap side? I’ll assume it bolts to the rail?

No - for the bottom of the actuator as per your question.

There is a bracket that bolts to the rail, which I show in my photo above.

    Install today.

Wiring question: Did you end up removing tail lights to run the jump wire?

Edit: Found the taco specific install info on their site. Looks like wiring can run via weep holes & storage bins.

That's correct. I ended up just drilling small holes in the bed to run the wires.
