Since I had to recharge my ham radio, figured I might as well paint my mount. It’s been bare steel for like 7 months now. Just don’t tell my wife I like to paint indoors.

Yeah I have a hook up for smittybuilt where I can get one brand new for half price so I am going to go that route once I recoup the funds.

I like mine. I have the lowest level, steel line, corded remote $300 one and it works well. Pulled my heavy ass up a steep hill and barely broke a sweat. Which one are you thinking of?

I do. I have an NMO antenna in my roof but I leave it disconnected. To be honest I was a little too gung ho and drilled the giant hole in my roof before realizing I really don’t need an external antenna. The handheld works great. Eventually I’ll get a hardwired ham to put the extensral antenna to use.
i have both my my CB is shit. I constantly get “robot randy” where I’ll try to talk but I’ll sound like a robot fucking a fax machine. So Tyler and I have our ham licenses and I’m trying to convince others to get it too. It’s much clearer.

What I did when respooling my line the other day was put up a stopwatch on my phone. That way I could easily do 30 on and 30 off. 30 seconds goes by real quick and I’ve definitely been over working my winch when using it.

Ham wasn’t too hard as long as you study for maybe an hour a night for a week. There are even apps for it. All the questions are publicly accessible, but there’s a large pool of 400 or so.

And yeah it’s easy to take your time while respooling. I just meant that’s the first I’ve ever truly followed that rule to a T and I was surprised how fast 30 seconds goes by while winching, and how slow it seems while waiting for it to cool. Definitely doing the stopwatch thing from now on on the trail.

Man I’m from CA!! Never been to tejas

All straps are clean, dry and tightly rolled, ready for the next trip. I use those reuseable twist tie things for my two shorter lines and a cam strap for big Bertha.

Nite Ize makes really long versions of those twist ties. I have a whole slew of their twist ties they are so handy. Will you come fix my strap mess???

I am looking at getting the kenwood one it's small and compact but should do the trick. Reasonably priced. I know you love Amazon so here's a link. I have found them from time to time on sale at actual online CB and HAM radio dealers for cheaper than amazon

Agreed, I love them. Just never got around to buying a longer one for the purple strap! And heck no, this wasn’t fun! Since you don’t have a hose though, you’ll have to get creative with a bath tub and bucket and maybe the toilet to dump dirty water down? I dunno.

That’s not a terrible price! Once more people start using ham I’ll pony up the cash. For now Tyler and I just use the hand helds if it’s only us.
