Things like this are awful but at the same time good to hear. I was told by UTC aerospace that I was a perfect candidate for a position and my experience would be a great asset for a position I applied for last year however they couldn’t consider me without a bachelors degree. I have about 6 classes left until I’m finished with my degree but I was just getting off active duty at the time and hadn’t finished it yet.

Sometimes experience and actual effort should be considered higher than a degree.

Just a thing on the References, I'm pretty sure that's all they can say now legally or something to that degree. My boss was telling me about it a few months ago

I always thought that was only a policy with certain companies who do not want to accept any liability for a recommendation, not across the board. Some of his references were from people in places where I couldn't imagine that being the case. The only way we give a neutral reference like that is if someone left on bad terms (usually a "resign or we have to fire you" scenario where part of the agreement is to provide verification of employment only).

I only have an associates'. I'll eventually go for more, but it wouldn't have any immediate benefit to me unless I were to leave my current job so I'm in no hurry (plus I'm 26 so I have time). I'm also in IT, though, where solid experience with no degree will almost always trump a degree with limited experience.

We had to grind mine a bit to work easier but that’s definitely bad.

My company has a strict policy about that. We aren’t allowed to say anything.

    Happy belated @micwillia

Hope all turns out well @mach1man001

I think I’m caught up. Been a busy week.

@Subway4X4 put that snorkel on, let him go get the camper. Or push it in the water and let insurance deal with it

Only if I go across the rail road tracks. I don't think its a good idea though because of how wet it is

Oh I wish. The camper is older so we only have liability insurance on it

I did all of my college while on Active Duty. I finished an Associates awhile ago and planned on finishing my bachelor since I’m only a few classes away but now that I do electrical line construction a degree would literally do nothing for me. Maybe eventually I’ll finish it just to have it.

The office was in Windsor IIRC. It was for a Defense/Military operations management position

Windsor locks is a better facility. They have much better systems in place to deal with the UTC bureaucracy - and there's no shortage of it. Aviation systems is UTC Aerospace core business. Keep in mind UTC bought Rockwell Collins and are merging UTC Aerospace with them. I don't imagine Windsor Locks would go anywhere but there may be shifting and reorganizations.

No worries now. In a different trade now and I don’t ever see myself walking away from the pay and benefits that I have. Plus I actually enjoy going to work everyday.. mostly

I applied there when I was getting out of the army and didn’t really know what to do with my life haha

Funniest thing we heard was one guy on the news was taking about this being a un-named tropical storm. He was going to name it the mother-in-law storm because it seemed like it was never going away. Lol

Technically it can be defamation of character to give a bad reference..even if it is true. That said, it's probably that some sue-happy prick looking for a quick buck would file a lawsuit hoping for a settlement, but...

Funny that you guys bring up UTC - I work at UTAS in Westford. It's an alright company - a lot of politics and corporate bs but overall the team and the work make it worthwhile. I can't wait for the merger with Rockwell... that's going to just be a blast with all the new training that will come out...

Had the back end of the truck step out to the right from under me while doing 70ish on the highway this morning. I must have hit some standing water on Route 3N just outside of billerica. Tried to countersteer and lightly ease off the gas but the truck wanted to go into the far left lane which I knew was empty so I let it go and lose some momentum a bit before trying to force it back behind me. The truck then started moving into the middle breakdown lane and finally caught traction and kept moving about my normal commute.

Surprisingly stayed calm during the whole thing - the dash cam video is boring though... I bet the guy who was tailgating me puckered up pretty good because he almost lost it in his truck as well.
