He’s lucky to have both of you. I have a double dapple that had a socket and one micro eye that stayed infected. Had the eye removed and both sutured shut. She gets around better than our seeing dogs. Nothing happens here without her knowing. lol

 

Both of you deserve props for taking him in and giving him quality of life. Food, water, shelter, attention and affection all make for an inseparable friend with stories to for the rest of your life.

Got some photos of my brother's cat "Peanut" while visiting in Seattle. She definitely lives up to the Tortoiseshell reputation... Craziest and most talkative cat I've ever met.

Kitten update:

Rex is a super sweetie and we had no need to even trap him. We now know he is actually a boy so we’re taking him Monday to be neutered and get all his checks and shots. Now we need to find this little man a forever home, I’d feel bad keeping him as just an outside cat since he is so loving. But we’ve already got three so unfortunately no more room indoors lol

Dude, black cats are the best cats.... we have had 2 and they have nothing but total lushes. Keep him you wont regret it.

 

Thunderstorms Friday night through Sunday morning have lowered temps from the upper 90s to the mid 70s so yesterday I turned off the AC and opened all the windows.

Just got back from a week-long vacation in Tennessee with my girlfriend's family. When I got home, my mom and dad told me that my kitten Bella had passed away while I was gone...

Before I left, she had started having trouble eating but she was getting back to normal before I left on Friday and the vet said she was unsure what had caused the issues. However, on Sunday or so, she started having the problems even worse so my parents took her in again. I didn't completely catch all of the details while my mom was telling me, but I know she had a fever of 105F at one point and they were feeding her via fluids. Turns out that she had FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) which happens to kittens or young cats exposed to many other cats (the vet assumed it was probably before we got her since we only have one other cat and they didn't interact too much. Maybe it was a reason that the previous owners got rid of her or maybe the gene was passed down from the mother). And she assured us that it was nothing we did wrong.

My parents said the vet kept Bella overnight and would constantly run tests to try and figure things out (she had under 1,000 white blood cells when they should have at least 5,000 and normally have closer to 20,000), but the disease has no known cure so she knew she didn't have much time left. According to my parents, Bella was lively, climbing trees and attacking the TV as usual. However, my dad said the sickness suddenly hit her and took its toll. She passed away 2 days later. My parents said those 2 days were really rough and she pretty much couldn't move but they stayed by her side the whole time. The night she passed, both of my parents had a sense she was going, so they both woke up. 3 minutes later, she stopped breathing while my dad laid her in her favorite box and held her paw. My mom let my girlfriend and her mother know while I was away and they were told to keep it a secret from me until I got back (which I'm grateful for because it was better coming from my parents themselves). My girlfriend also let me know that she could barely hold it in when I told her that I really wanted to bring Bella with me when I get my apartment next year at college.

I'm not gonna lie that it's really hard for me right now cause she was my first pet that I primarily cared for on my own. Even looking at all the empty spaces in my room where her stuff used to be really gets to me. But, it somewhat eases me that I know that we gave her a great life and always played and cared for her every day. Here are two of the last pictures I took of Bella while she was laying in her usual spot in my bed.
