Thinking of buying 2018 4cyl, 4wd access cab Tacoma. Would like opinions from owners. Is the 4cyl enough power for this truck? Or is it a dog? I will not be doing any off road or towing. Mainly everyday transportation, with light hauling. How is this truck in the snow? Have a 2007 access cab, rwd, stick 4cyl and it has enough power for my needs. However, wonder if the added weight and auto transmission will have a negative effect on power. Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks ..Sam

I think the V6 gets better mpg and then the resale value on the v6 is worth it alone,

All these trucks are great in the snow, I've had mine in snow anywhere from a dusting to 2 feet and have had NO problems getting around. I have 4 cylinder SR5 Auto access cab and am happy with it. That being said....what you really need to do is take the 4 and 6 out for LONG test drives or rent each one for a few days so you get a good feel to see which one you like better. Asking people on here will really be of no help because they won't be driving it you will. As for higher resale value for the 6 cylinder...yes..because you pay more for it initially.

I bought a used 2016 access cab 4cyl manual trans. And its gutless, I love the truck but I wish I would have spent the money to get the 6cyl. I have since lifted the truck so I'm at the point of no return, I would think twice about it.

My 2017 4 cy works great, however I have a MT. It did great in the snow last winter going up to Tahoe and Lowe’s runs are never a problem. No doubt the 6 is more powerful, however I think a lot who bash the 4 never have driven one.

It's gutless but what are you going to be using it for?

Puttering around town and making a dump run or three? This would be your truck.

    Anything more, get the 6.

I think you double if not triple your money back on resale. I had a lot of calls mon my 99 that was a 4 cal and every one started with “ are you sure it’s a 4 cylinder”

My son has a 15 TRDOR AC with the V6 and on our trips up to the mountains (11,000') we stay together with no problem. I'm able to run with traffic at or above the speed limit, up hill, no problem.

Maybe I just happened to get one of the better 4 cyl. motors, or maybe the V6 guys never tried to hang with a 4 cyl.

The only advantage to the 4 is less initial costs. Fuel mileage is not enough different to matter and you get your money back when the time comes to sell/trade. Honestly, I don't understand why they still offer the 4. It made sense in the 1st gens and pre Tacoma trucks that were significantly smaller.

Just rent one of each for a few days. Before you know it this thread will have 50 responses and you still won't have your answer :crapstorm: because all of us answering use our trucks differently and have different expectations. Oh...and to the guy that said you double or triple your money back on the 6 cylinder:rasta:

In the 3rd gen I've owned both the 4 and the 6 and I liked both.

    Hope that helps.

Test drive the four. Laughed at the turtle like acceleration. Bought the 6.

I consider our 2nd Gen 2.7 a "dog", there's no way in hell I'd get a 2.7 manual 3rd Gen. I'd definitely test drive an auto, see how different that is. I'd do anything for a Taco with an inline 6, think would be the perfect match.

My 2018 SR AC 2.7 is a dog

    My 01 base 4 door 2.7 is a dog

I have to drive the 18 in 4th gear to maintain 70 Mph on hills, lots of hills here. At 5th/6th gear it can’t maintain speed .

The 2.7 L is laughably slow. It’s likr going to a gym shower with a 1.7inch Asian dick

Only upside of my 2.7L is the bulletproof reliability; at the expense of everyone laughing at me

This is why I decided on the 2.7L. I'm in the middle of a turbo build at the moment, so I can maintain speed on hills.
We'll see how long that "reliability" last haha

    No turbo for us

We are poor gardeners, looking with envy at Prius and their massive acceleration compared to my 2.7 Yugo

I have the 4cyl 4WD with 5 speed. Reliable, easy to work on, and good in snow. I had the 6 cyl and it was nice but didn't make sense for my needs. No towing and I live in the country - drive it to work on occasion and make dump runs. The 5 speed is nice and if you keep the RPM's up it may surprise you. Test drive them both and see what fits your needs.

I used my sr to tow a trailer with lots of landscaping equipment up mountain roads. Barely felt the trailer. It did struggle on reeally steep roads and driveways. But it had to be at least 2500lbs maybe more. I don’t do it everyday but the one ton at work broke down.

I’ve had both in mt... the 4 cyl will do everything the 6 will do just have to get in that skinny pedal and not be scared t keep the rpms up.... I only went t 6 cyl for 4 door... that being said I’ve driven the auto and wouldn’t buy it!!!
