Hey guys I have a real simple question...Should I go with the AFE stage 2 si CAI or get a pair of shorty headers? Also what kind of performance gains or losses am I looking at with each of them?
Your impute would be greatly appreciated

    Ryan,

It's not worth it to mess with the headers in Cali, due to the regulations. Just go with a CAT Back system. I just installed an aFe system this morning and it took me a grand total of 28 minutes to remove the factory system and install the aFe system. The build quality is great and the sound is more throaty, but not overly loud.

the headers are the only thing that gave me noticable power gains

Depends, do you want power or sound to be your primary goal? If power, go with the headers. If sound us your biggest objective right now, go with the CAI. It is simple as that.

headers are aftermarket replacements for the exhaust maniflods. They are the parts bolted directly to the heads on the sides of the engine. They channel the exhaust from each cylinder down to the exhaust pipes

Yeah i guess that pretty much sums it up. I think Ill go with the headers first. Non of these would make me lose low end power would they?

Cold air you could lose a tiny bit, but as far as I am concerned, the headers will more than make up for it on the low end side of things.

hmm i was thinking about getting shortys with high flow cats. that way it there is a closer effect to the long tubes and i never have to mess with anything once it is done. Also what is the big deal with cutting and welding to the cats? And i also heard the long tubes make you lose some low end power as well.

i beg to differ. didn't notice any loss in torque on the bottem end

oh i see. i dont plan on replacing my Y's anytime soon so thats not a problem. now im leaning towards the long pipes. the only thing is that i inspected my headers and it looks like itd be hell taking them off and then putting them on again mainly because of the bottom bolts

how did you guys manage to get the bottom bolts tight? there looks like very little room to put a wrench in there

you need small tools and a lot of hand/finger strength:p. Or you could try and find some specialty tools that twist and bend into tight spaces

    It's really not that bad;)
