Part of a service at Toyota is to lube all door hinges, tailgate latches and hinges, hood latch and the fuel door with Toyota spray grease. Never seen any issue with dirt build up causing a problem.

I agree with you on that, my 1st gen was the same way especially in the winter when the hinge started to rust. I also learned that you need to be very careful when opening the door if it is covered in ice and snow.

Use dry film lubricant. This should be used for all your household key locks and hinges

Are they more flimsy than on the '17s?

My door has rubbed since shortly after I bought my truck. This morning, as others have mentioned, I stopped for fuel, popped the door open and when I tried closing it it was a no go. Being that I was headed for work I pushed on it and the metal is that flimsy it actually dimpled from the inside out and of course chipped the paint. Not real happy about it but nothing was ever done when it was brought up to the dealer during service appt.

This has been a problem on almost every Toyota vehicle for a very long time. You’d think they strengthen the hinge and maybe come up with a better solution than the piano hinge they use. Just keep them clean and don’t over lube. That actually attracts more dirt

Just had this problem out of the blue on my 3rd gen last week after 60K miles. Have put hundreds of thousands of miles on Toyota’s of various models since 1993, have never lubed a fuel filler door hinge, with no problems. Until now.

Wtf thats bullshit. Theives are dicks. Gas is expensive, but come on man there couldn't have been more than 50 or 60 bucks worth of gas in that tank.

Mine did this last fill up too but seems to be rubbing in the inside where the left side of the door swings into the pocket. 2nd gen here though.
