Here is the update.. don't know what to do..

5100 (fronts) installed at 1.75. Had a 1.5 aal in the rear and all was good...till the squeaking started.

Went back to the shop for them to check it out, to which they sprayed some white lithium grease. Squeak went away for a day or two, then came back. Went back to the shop, which then they grinded down the tips a bit, and greased again. Squeak was worse than the first time.

The shop wanted to blame it on something else (and screw me) but luckily did as much as I would have hoped for to remedy the problem, and switched out the aal with a 1.5 block. I don't do any off-roading right now, don't have anything to tow, and hardly ever haul super heavy loads..

After reading all there is here and on the net, I know that blocks are not "recommended" but can do.

    Here are the options.

    1. Get a toytec or wheelers aal (with the pads) and get the block out of there ASAP..
    2. Leave the block as is and let it go until I need to replace the spring.
    3. Save up for a leaf pack and do sooner than later (the bad part is that the shipping to hawaii is almost the same price as the pack itself).

How do you even know when the spring pack needs to be replaced? Currently (with block), springs look more straight than arched up.

huh? squeak is not a problem anymore..

I misunderstood what was happening....anyway, I'd do #2 and #3 and still find a military friend.

    X2.
But if you don't mind a rougher ride you might want to save a few bucks and get the AAL over the leaf pack.
If it were my truck I wouldn't be running a block

So after they changed the aal out the noise went away? There is absolutly no problem running blocks. you can off road, haul, whatever. They make leaf springs flater now than they used to, any more on light trucks theres hardly any arch in them. Yours are fine.

I bet they installed the AAL without wiping the leafs off and the debris being left there is what you heard.

If it was me, I'd just turn the music up. Mine squeak, as do most, but it isn't bad enough to make me do anything about it.

Problem was getting more looks because of the squeak rather than the nice ride.. squeak was pretty bad. Every little stop and go, getting out of the truck, even closing a door would make a squeak..

If I do run the block till the leafs go bad, how do I know the leafs need to be changed ASAP or can go longer?

That is also the problem with just getting a another aal now.. may as well save up a bit longer and get the full pack.

I hear ya, they can get pretty bad sometimes. The only time you would really NEED to replace the leaf packs is if you start to get a negative arch on them. As it stands right now, you seem to have next to no arch, although its kind of hard to tell from the photos.

I'm curious...who made the AAL that you had in and removed. I'm assuming it wasn't a factory unit.

The aal was a fabtech. That is the brand that shops here carry.. If I knew about anti-squeak pads on the wheelers or the toytec, would have gone that route in the 1st place.

Just went down to a neighbors house.. he has a Dodge "sport" 4x4 off-road.. Stock suspension.. took a look at the rear and lo and behold, what looks like a 3" or more block in between the axle and the leaf pack.. his pack did have some serious arch to it still..

if they are that bad, why the company put them on at the factory????

Tomorrow calling around to price out leaf packs from some local companies.. all 2-3 of them....

THat doesn't sound too promising... guess it is hit and miss (possibly more hit than miss)..

More reason to buy the whole pack..

now someone is gonna tell me that a new pack will squeak like hell too...
