But they look like ass. Just like the Colorado, they come to this slanty front that looks so weak.

2005's are not JK's. Yours was a 4.0 L AMC motor which was the best the Jeep ever had. In 2008 they used a 3.8L POS motor and then in 2012 the 3.6L which was a bigger POS. Bad heads, bad oil filter housings, mixed up HOAT and OAT antifreeze, and on and on.

I'm not knocking the interior at all just the idea its on par "or better" than German luxury auto makers but maybe that was just hyperbole on your part or comparing to maybe an entry level 3-series or something.

For a truck the dodge has an amazing interior, even best in class... but thats still for a truck and just making sure we have a reality check here, when you get into the realm of actual luxury cars like a 7-series or even E-class the smallest of details are what make all the difference like the TYPE of leather, hand or machine stitching, no hard plastic anywhere visible, etc.... and those finer details are where Dodge is never going to compete with the likes of Mercedes/Audi/BMW nor should it, its a truck it would needlessly raise manufacturing cost to actually be on their level in the luxury interior game.

I think for some customers the off road ability is important enough to deal with any reliability issues. There is another bigger set that buy new and never use off road mall crawler if you will..that don’t keep the vehicle too far out of warranty. Up until a year or so ago they had 100k powertrain so most moved it along before warranty was out not to mention for $2500 you can get a lifetime unlimited miles bumper to bumper with their gas vehicles. My experience is that rams and jeeps are pretty nice under 100k after that they start to cost money. I personally don’t think the Tacoma is a good new purchase for the little quality issues they have, I think you can get more for your money if your going to trade under 100k. I do however think that they are excellent high mileage used purchases. That is how I will look at them moving forward. If I want plush solid trucks that I trade in less than 100k I’ll look elsewhere for the same money.

I understand that the Tacoma for some is a first time big purchase and without anything to compare it to is the pinnicale of ownership. My personal experience with other brands over the years I see it a little different. Don’t get me wrong I am not unhappy with my Tacoma, it does what I need it to do with minimal issues, and will do what I need I hope when it’s time to trade or sell. After that I will more than likely save a lot of aggravation and dissapointment with new car expectations and purchase my Tacoma’s and 4 runners with a little age and mileage on them. I think that is where they and all Toyota’s for that matter shine the most.

I definitely think the Rangers are bad ass. Not sure what they'll be like in our market, but the Rangers out in the middle east are neat, i.e. Wildtrak.

There was an article this morning that said the Ranger Raptor was not confirmed for the US market. Also it is very unlikely that anything will be offered other than the 4cyl gas and diesel motors from other markets. It was said that a 3.0l V6 cannot fit in the package.

As much as folks think that we should get the HiLux, I like that we have our own model. Of course there are pluses and minuses to that.

I don’t think the Hilux would go over as well as people think with the masses, it’s pretty tractor like and spartan for the most part. Which works very well in the places that they sell it.

    Legacy, past reputation, warranty.

Someone with more money than sense goes and buys a wrangler, has some fun, then dumps it when the warranty is up for a retarded price. The dealership sells it to some chump who is eager to impress his bro's and 60k miles later he sells it because his 2nd wife is pregnant again and he can't afford to keep touching up the plasti dipped wheels every week.

Chump #3 goes to a buy here pay here and buys a beat $20k wrangler based on a reputation which may not be deserved anymore. It gets repossessed in a year and then the same buy here pay here sells it for $20k to another sucker.

    Or something like that.

I agree. It'd be interesting if they were both sold here. It couldn't hurt given that both the Taco plants and the Tundra plant is running 24/7 and still can't make enough.

In the end, I'm still happy 9mo in. The more I see of the new Ranger, the happier I am that I didn't wait.

I'd love a truck like that! That's why I wanted an SR over any other trim level, basic as I could get especially in the utility delete package. I agree, though, I'm a minority when it comes to my wants as I don't mind doing without things like heated seats and such. I've owned trucks with them and got it out of my system, now I know the things I can make do without.

Wonder when not if the day will come when gas is so high that nobody wants trucks anymore but small hybrid cars.

Fuel costs do suck, but it isn't a huge difference depending on factors. The sidecar that I was riding for 4yrs before the Taco was averaging about 28mpg. Getting 19.5 in the Taco is no big deal being much more useful and reliable. I split the commute duties with my other bike that gets about 40mpg average and better, even riding the fun way. Basic fuel sippers like the Geo Metro and CRX HF are not coming back. But then, they really can't do much other than easy Point A to Point B stuff or haul one person and cargo loaded with the seats flipped down.

Hell, automakers can't even sell useful true station wagons or hatchbacks anymore. It's going to be a looong time before the whole thing changes.

My plan is to hold onto the Taco as long as I can, and by that time, cool stuff like the Bollinger will be mainstream.

Damn. Nailed it. One of my friends is chump #3, except he parted it out as much as he could before repossession (sliders, bumpers, etc.).
