    Nothing awesome in the shop these days. Little stuff like these cable carriers for truss. Have a few good jobs coming up. Been on the road a lot lately.IMG_20180710_082845.jpg KIMG0482.jpg

    it wasnt a heavy extension cord, I think this one was 100' so there was a lot of amp draw. I just plugged it into the outlet direct and had better results. :)

    most of my work never gets seen. 105 foot radius video wall, Atlanta Mercedes dome. retractable roof stadium, hence the crazy long bridles. some are 300 feet long. 9 miles of cable. retractable roof stadiums are a nightmare for me.1849.jpg1924.jpg

    That’s so badass bro. Funny that you build this stuff and I rig it lol. I really respect what you do. Takes major skill to do what you do. Making sure that it can withstand what it does and making sure it doesn’t break especially over so many peoples heads and what not. Good work!

    I am a totally behind the scenes guy. the Td and project managers get all the props. I am my own entity for my company, have my own shop space and only take direction for 2 of the 3 owners. they buy what I need and leave me alone as long as I stay in front of them. maybe 10 percent of our work is in Vegas, the rest goes all over the country. I have stuff in Ny at the Javits center, Moscone center in San Fran, Dallas cowboys stadium, La convention center right now. I have 2 huge corporate events coming to Vegas in August. some stuff is fun to build, but mostly it is all structural stuff that never gets seen or used ever again. we give stuff to the local riggers to recycle most of the time, instead of trucking it back to Vegas. I don't miss Ca. one bit. oh yeah, I'm getting a brand new Baileigh mill next week. starting to make inventory to rent out for the shop in my spare time. cheers

    everything I build has stamped engineering, sometimes we build stuff and send it to a lab for testing. in our industry, everything has to be rated 7 times max weight allowed. my shop is really one of the few companies that specializes in big big weight. most our jobs are over 350,000 pounds. I have a shop full of retarded rigging equipment. ever picked up a 55 ton shackle ? 98 pounds, 2.5" pin.

    I have been offered a job recently for a heavy equipment company doing fab, a few of the local rigging companies have tried to poach me, but I like where I am at and who I work for. it is to the point that other rigging outfits are sub contracting me to build there stuff when I have time. I will say that I am glad I don't have to deal with all the ego that comes along with the Hollywood crowd. we are mainly large corporate event people. I have done 7 jobs for Google just this year. the main owner of my company is known as the greatest rigger in the world right now. honestly, I can't complain, I get to bring my dog to work, get any tool I want, have my own air conditioned shop, get to come and go as I please, have a great package that includes insurance etc etc. I don't need to be in the rigging union, but work side by side with them without getting any headache from them just because who I work for and what I do, I make there life easy and they know it now. when I am busy, I average 75 hour weeks. forgot to mention that it is hot as balls in Vegas right now, that is the only downside to this city. 113 today. I will post up some more pics of big event stuff when I have time, we do some cool stuff with big wight and automation
    cheers.

    Some of that rigging gear is a pain in the ass to move around and use. Thankfully most of the gear can be picked up and moved around by forklift and taken to the portal cranes or overhead cranes so theres not much lifting being done. But when handling 3.5" diameter shackle pins it can be a pain. Not super heavy but still annoying!

    nothing is quite as nerve wrecking as using a 25ton plus chainfall and coming up to weight and the crane operator is going a bit "quick" and the chainfall snaps and spins around fast. Most of our heavy lifts are multi-leg ones.

    our lifts can have 40 pickup points and more. problem is the lifts are not balanced, awkward shapes, motors not all synched. how is this for some hardware ?KIMG0409.jpgKIMG0408.jpg

    Those look quite familiar. We dont use the (name escapes me) first picture item except in a few lifts. (maybe a handful). Our bigger shackles that the 3-1/2" ones are pins and a nut with cotter pin.

    Thankfully im not a Rigger so dont have to deal with hooking everything up....just have to make sure everything is in cal and the right parts in a lift

    @deog

    I definitely don’t rig stuff that gnarly. I just meant that I rig in the same fashion. We make huge truss walls for green screens and all kinds of other crap kinda similar. We rig a lot of the truss shown in your pics and stuff but more small scale. Never used a shackle anywhere near that size hahaha. I was mainly getting at the fact that you do some nice work and even if people dont see much of it, we here in the anything welding thread can appreciate it.

    Hahahaha when people realize what it is they usually get a good chuckle.

    It was the first thing that came to mind when I joined TW and it asked what I wanted my username to be. Don’t know why haha

    we don't use that big stuff often, but when we do, its big goofy structures. I have not welded on a off road rig in years. its all the same, making funny shapes out of metal, just a different industry.

    Dude it got me good.

    Funny story. In the Coast Guard, we always played trick on the new airmen when they show up at the airbase. We told them we are gonna do some lifting with the helicopter, go find the biggest shackle they can and bring it back. So one Saturday this new airman gets there and at morning muster he introduces himself, I'm like oh yeah. So afterwards I tell him my spill, and he disappeared. Gone for like four hours. He came walking back beside a rough terrain forklift from expeditionary forces carrying the biggest shackle I have ever seen in my life. I laughed so freaking hard. He knew what was up. He was good people.
