Makes perfect sense. Would figure after a while of unreliability people would wise up. Guess not.

FINALLY now what you said makes sense.

I didn't realize they have 100K warranty and you can buy lifetime warranty.

Given most people don't keep a vehicle 100K, it makes perfect sense why they buy a Wrangler knowing the problems. Its like people who bought the Hyundai Excel and Sonata.... they were junk...but had 100K warranty and dirt cheap.

    Thanks. Learned something new today

Tacoma sells quite a few 4 cyl trucks ;)

Given people buy 4 cyl mustangs, I don’t see a reason people won’t buy 4 cyl turbo Rangers

Passion. The marketing gives them the vision of being tough, free, backcountry, etc. Trail rated... what does that even mean?

I think the EcoBoost motor will sell well. It just means that the Ranger Raptor, if it happens here, will not have a great distinction over the other trims. So, more like the Taco Pro. Some trim, some finish, a slight lift, and a sticker package. That part, US buyers might not like?

Maybe they'll turn up the boost like they did with the F150 Raptor compared to the 3.5l EB?

Either way, to me it doesn't feel like the special truck (Ranger or Ranger Raptor) that I was hoping for. I was just looking at it through the rosey glass of the aluminum bodied F150. In fact, it makes me feel like my ACLB MT Taco is the special one?

So here's my opinion: I think, much like the GM twin's sales, that the majority of the Ranger's sales are going to be existing Ford truck owners.
I also think, that Ford is introducing the Ranger not to take market share away from competitors, but to protect their own existing market share.
Meaning, there are "X" potential and existing customers in the mid sized truck world. Let's say 500K. Ford is not going to appreciably take market share from the Tacoma, but it is going to protect the F150 customers from jumping ship and buying a GM or Tacoma. THAT'S what I think is happening. Next year we will know for sure. That's what the GM twins have done for Chevy, given their loyal customers a choice instead of going to Toyota.

I don't know if you have ever had any higher level classes in marketing and advertising, but that stuff is scary in what it can make people believe. What's worse, people don't even know they were played.

I have not had any classes. I have just sat in executive advertising meetings for Toyotas for about 7 years. Once a year it was a budget meeting and and our counsels office had to sit in and approve the advertising language and we would see what they would do to push product

However looking at every Tacoma owner coming out of the dealership and buying the same fake pro grille
    Same snorkel
    Same crap sliders
    Same bed racks
Same RTT they will never use
Same 4 runner Pro sema wheels
And same ghetto raptor lights and light bars
    And same KO2 tires
    Same icon lifts

It is apparent plenty of marketing is at play since everyone is #expeditionportal cumming in their pants, while in reality they are sitting in their mid management cubicle in an office with their “expedition ready” Tacoma sitting in the parking lot

The vendors are getting rich and laughing all the way the bank

The higher the boost, the lower the reliability. After dealing with turbos in the past, I have no desire to ever own another turbo vehicle.

Yeah dude at my work just had BOTH of the turbos on his F150 go out, he has about 25K miles in the truck, luckily he said it is still under warranty.

No way? While the 6.2l sounded nice, very nice, I am seeing way more of the current gen running around here. Possibly double the number? And, we're still early in the production run. I get it. V8s rule the full size world, but moar power in a smaller, lighter package. Nevermind. . . :D

That is my thought also, esp given the number clapped out Rangers that I see running around (not to mention Dakota owners looking for something other than GM). It will be interesting to see and watch what Toyota does, if anything. The mid-size market has plenty of room to grow.

I just wish one of the companies would make a mid size truck with a regular 2 door cab again like the good ol days.

I see a lot of rangers but the Dakotas take the jury-rigged, bubblegum bondo'd, only staying together because of duct tape and bailing wire crown.

There is no market for it

I wanted a stripper 2018 2 door for my farm
    I paid $22,000
    It has 4 doors
    But no rear seats
That’s the closest you will come

Dealer asked me if I am a gardener or a pool man

Sorry, but I don't buy into that myself. Lots of turbo love for me. We had zero engine issues with our HO turbos on our saab 9-3, volvo v70, and our current Forester XT. The volvo did have a problem with the crankcase breather, but it was an easy fix.

The EB do seem to be having some higher than normal problems, but that is not common for most all other turbos these days.
