Amazon / X-Bull / X-Traction / Offroad Boar 4WD Recovery Boards?

I'm trying to figure out how to theft-proof my recovery board mounts.

Here's some food for thought.

A company that makes lockable nuts. They have other lockable nuts and it looks like minimums apply.

Maybe a group buy is in order if enough people are interested...

One last thing...

It looks like Treds are 1100mm or 43.3 inches...so pretty similar to the X-Bulls.

Does anyone know if the Tred lockable mounting pins / holes will line up with the X-Bulls?

Do these nest together well?

 

They do.

 

How did you mount them and do you lock them? was going to put them on a prinsu rack.

 

I have a shell, with windoors, where they go.

Did you ever decide on how to mount them? I have a set of the x-bull traction boards and have a prinsu toprac on the way. Trying to figure out how I want to go about mounting the boards

 

I recently bought the X-Bull boards, and had to use them. They held up great (nothing broke) and got me out of a jam. Definitely worth the $80 I spent. You can mount them to the bed rails with a 1/2" carriage bolt, washer and wing nut. Just need to grind the carriage bolt a bit for it to fit.

 

I used a thick piece of plexiglass we had laying around the shop, drilled some holes for 1/2 inch carriage bolts to run through the mounting holes, and some 1/4 inch holes to mount via carriage bolts to the prinsu rail slots. Basically creates a poor man's "load plate" like Prinsu sells.

The 1/4inch holes are hidden under the boards when mounted. I then used the plates off some 1/2 inch U-bolts I found at Lowe's to hold the boards down and keep them tight with wing nuts.

Finally got a "opportunity" to use these with my Forester trying to get up a muddy hill - the X-Bull ones worked great. I have them ratchet strapped to my top rack and use a cheap cable lock to protect them from thievery. I think I'm going to set up an Amazon alert to snag a 2nd pair when they hit $80 again. There were areas where it would have been nice to have 4 so I could stack them.

 

I finally got to use mine back on Saturday night, recovering someone out in the desert. Definitely worth it, and they made what could have been a very bad time much easier. I'm also going to be picking up a second pair at some point

Glad to see this thread still moving. I have yet to use mine, but glad to see they are working for people who are using them.

 

Only reason I'm not a huge fan of these is that I carry four and they don't stack very well... anyone no of some other budget options that stack thinner?

 

I also have four of these and mine stack just fine. I have the "newer" version though...not sure if that made a difference.
