It's less Tacoma and more mod
You could control speed with PWM (easy enough and produces less heat than a typical resistor) but that works better with brushless motors, although I have a couple brushless motors that could get that squirrel cage fun up to 60,000 rpm or so pretty easily.

Also @12TRDTacoma on the blower motor situation, it seems like the taco has an awkward sized blower. Not saying we couldn’t get something to work, but maybe switching the motor would be a better upgrade.

best upgrade is to switch or add a electric cooling fan.

more air flow from the blower isn't going to help if there is not enough refrigerant being evaporated

IF it made it to 60kRPM it would likely grenade the evap enclosure and anything around it. I’d be surprised if the squirrel cage would make it past 3500rpm
My POS is white, reflects heat pretty well, never seen interior temp above 125° even on triple digit days. Heat absorption from paint color is likely part of the issue. My 3rd gen Runner is tan and gets a little hotter in those temps. But the AC does seem to work a lot better in that, even with just front ac no rear it cools off pretty quick and stays there. My Ford work van sucks if it’s not moving

Lol. Sorry guys the response back seriously made me laugh.

Well if that is the case all we need is a good 12v motor as a replacement. No actually getting into the squirrel cage motor itself is what I wonder if it is difficult or not to access.

For the guys circulating 54*F (myself included) at idle, the issue isn't so much that it is cold, but the distance required to move it before it hits you loses a lot of potential due to lack of blower air power. If you upgraded the motor or the fan assembly with a stronger unit than the air would have a cooler sensation on as it would be blowing out much stronger, so it is the same, 54 yes, but a cooler 54*F because of the fact that more air is reaching you.

I actually sat in my buddies Yukon Denali recently in the blazing heat for a while at idle and I noticed it was losing AC potential after a while as well, so this issue is common, but on the taco I think it is more pronounced due to a multitude of issues.

I got my truck back from the dealer yesterday about the same issue, the service manager broke it down and said that i did not have any leaks but the system did show the system was overfilled. They drained everything plus the dye they added and now my A/C is finally where it needs to be.

So for other cases, i would say take your trucks in to be checked.

But the humidity makes a/c systems inefficient.

Too much air speed through the evap core and the air won't have time to transfer heat to the evap core. We are working with physics and heat transfer here. If you actually take temps with the a/c on coldest setting mid blower speed and recirc that should get you your coldest temps out of the vents. The air has more time to transfer heat across the evap core ambut still retains enough speed to get to the vents without loosing a lot to the vents.

My 06’s AC was ice cold and would freeze me out anytime, but my 15 kind of sucks.

Though Geographically I’m in Vegas now be San Antonio, which might be a little of it.

I do wish I could get my 15’s going colder and stronger.

I wonder if they cheaped out at some point between the quality of AC components being used between early to end of gen vehicles.

It is possible they cheaped out on the quality of materials being used. Or even sizing of components mid generation or 3/4 end of generation. The name of their game is cost cutting after all so they will cheap out whatever way they see possible.

I Love Redneck's, the generator and window unit cost more than their ride, much less fixing the AC!

They already had the AC and generator.

If not, it would never happen.
