We've not had good luck with Timbrens, they're too big and too progressive. There has to be a decent amount of up travel with linear spring rate so the shocks can do their job. Wheelers are better, but I still think there's room for improvement.

So wheelers paired with a u bolt flip kit would be betters than stock.?
Would the RXT pack be better then the AAL or Dakar med..?
Meaning it wouldn't be too stiff but still take advantage of the extended travel shock providing more travel..?
I'll only carry loads once in a while so I deal with that as to having too stiff a ride unloaded.
Need to settle on a spring choice and I'm trying to get the sweet spot on ride and travel or droop and still be able to haul once in a while.
    AAL, RXT, Deaver....
Guess I need to keep reading.
The AAL seems like a good choice but not sure it take advantage of the extended travel shock providing more travel via droop or uptravel.

To put wheelers on, you'll need a flip kit that allows for their mounting, such as the Archive Garage kit.

I don't know much about dakars, but i hear people complain about noise and pack thickness. The RXTs are a pack that comes with a swappable leaf, giving you 3 different options they show on their site, for ride height and payload capacity. Really, this could possibly be done with most any other leaf pack, the Icon promo info just shows what each setup will achieve. I have mine in the middle setting and it gave a bit more lift than the AAL pack I had.

    These look interesting....
Might be just what I need.
Was hoping for 2 1/2" up front and 2" in the back after sagging.

Question for you, what do you all do about the spring retainer on the overload vs. the spring retainer on the Icon set? They mostly occupy the same space, but the Icon does seem to fit inside the stock retainer a little.

Looks like Dakar pack has something similar, i just can't find clear info on how it works, I'm not as familiar. Also not sure what the "medium" pack is you were referencing.

From the overload? Not worried about the OL getting misaligned?

When looking at the dakars the choices are medium or heavy.

You know, I'm pretty sure I just flipped the OL front-back so that it wasn't interfering anymore, or chopped a guide from the stock stuff so all things stayed in line without hitting.

    Lots of sail boat fuel

I carry around the same weight. The medium dakars have been great. They broke in great. Part of what makes it great, adj in rear. If you're your this far Into it, deff don't "need" them up front, but I crank down some bad roads with about 10 days worth of camping gear, food, and equipment and barely know it's there.

My 2c again. Medium Dakar. Clicker in back.

Yeah, all I can say is that if your shocks aren't up to snuff, get a hold of Ryan @*TRD* at accutune. Limited amount of time, this far as I got them of just today, but they feel amazing. Can't wait to get my rxt pack, would think aside from shock relocation, best mid travel you can get. Thanks again Ryan, my foxes are what I imagined they could be!!!!

Was thinking to send my fox kit to him for tuning as well.
You say the RXT pack is next and I'm thinking that direction as well but would like some feedback from anyone running this combo.
Fox2.5 or 2.0 for that matter along with the RXT...
Is this the best all around set up..?

How is it unloaded as that's me 95% of the time.
    This decision is hard.

Honestly, from reading your posts, you’re putting a lot of focus on ride comfort and payload capacity but those are often times opposite sides of the spectrum.

I feel like the key is to find a balance of an adequately stiff/progressive leaf pack combined with a shock that is valved appropriately to compliment it. You have to remember that the shock is just the dampener, the springs are what hold the weight. If you have too stiff a valved shock, you will have poor ride quality. If you have a shock valved too lightly for the weight, you’ll blow through travel too quickly and therefore poor ride quality.

The major difference between the 2.0s and the 2.5s Is fluid capacity and increased dampening capabilities. Your need will vary per your driving style and such. Keep in mind that you cannot get the Dual Speed Compression adjusters in a 2.0. You can only get the Low Speed Adjuster. (From Fox at least. Idk about other manufacturers)

I agree with everything you said.
I'm looking at getting the 2.5 adjustable rear shocks now and striking a good middle ground with the springs. Since I only carry those loads once and sometimes twice a month for a short distance I'm willing to give up some load capacity in order to have comfort.
Trying to find that balance of spring shock combo is exactly what I'm after but with no real way to experience different set ups I'm reaching out for advice. This has been really helpful and has helped me make more informed decisions as I've now decided that the adjustable rears would be wise and if the RXT has the three setting choices it might be easier to accomplish this balance. Your insight is sound and well spoken and appreciated and is what makes this forum an amazing place.
