I would say they are standard size. It's the set my dad gave me when i got my license, so haven't really paid attention to what's out there. Could be time for an upgrade, prior to this i had a 83 chevy k20 and 62 c10, much simpler ignition systems and they were manual so i pretty much had jumper cables for good simaritain reasons only.

i will start with cleaning the terminals tonight.

 

do you have a regular 110v battery charger?

 

Is the starter cranking and it just won't fire or is it the starter not even cranking the engine?

 

Always start simple in diagnosing. Just swap the battery from your wifes car into the truck and see if it cranks (and starts). If it does you know its the battery. if it doesn't you know its electrical on the truck. Then move on from there. Even a car battery should crank over our engines....unless its some odd battery that's super low CCA.

 

I did, it walked off with my tools about a year ago.

She drive a jeep liberty, sameish size battery. I would have tried that this morning, but didn't have time.

 

My wife’s Acadia all of a sudden wouldn’t crank after the day prior having no issues. We would go to crank and the security theft stuff would flash on the dash. I figured someone at the oil change place messed something up from 2 days prior. End of the day: the battery just died that hard that it wouldn’t even turn the crank AND I learned that newer vehicles will befinn”shutting down” auxiliary systems to try and conserve power to crank, which is why the theft stuff came on (the vehicle stopped sending power to that portion which was just how severe the battery was). I was able to jump it with our Stanley battery box and once a new battery from oreillys was installed, we had no issues. Oreillys can also check the alternator to make sure it’s charging like it should also, free of charge. Gave me peace of mind knowing the alt was still good.

 

Agreed, this is the fastest and easiest way to eliminate the battery as an issue. If you aren't even hearing the starter relay click though there is a chance you have something else going on because if it's got enough juice to light the dash it should have enough to cycle the relay even if it doesn't have enough to crank the starter. Then again with all the computer controls in there now it may just prevent power from getting that far if it senses that there isn't enough voltage to run the starter.

That's what I'd do when you get home and I would bet itll point to the battery being bad. Sounds kind of like what happened to my Tacoma with the stock battery. But mine worked fine then sat for like 2 weeks then went to start it and got nothing. Tried jumping it and nothing. Hooked up a battery charger nd waited an hour and nothing.

Course then I called Toyota Care and told them it was the battery. To which they told me I couldn't just take the battery to the dealer but had to have it towed there. So they towed it there just to replace the battery. But to make it even better the dealer decided to do an oil change since it was there without asking me. Which was ok since it was due more or less anyways. But then they tried to charge me for air filter (5k miles on it so still was good), cabin filer, and something else. Told them to pound sand and that I never even told them to do that service and it was only there for a dead battery under warranty. Was only like 30 bucks but it was more the point and them doing shit just to try to make money off warranty work. Took a good 30 minutes for them to finally accept that I wasn't going to be paying for shit I didn't authorize. Probably helped this was in their waiting room which was full of people and I made damn sure everyone could hear what was happening.

 

Yeah i'm going to do all of the more in depth things tonight. I had about 20 minutes this morning before my wife had to leave, so it was a kick the tire and say well shit troubleshoot.

 

So if I were to get pulled over right now, and the back of my truck were searched, they would legit find a body wrapped in a black garbage bag.

 

We had the same $hit happen to the CR-V (wouldn't crank as the security shit was "thinking" for me). Got it jumped and wife drove it to Costco but they refuse to install batteries yet the car was dead in their driveway bay. Kinda forced them help out.
