So I was going to have safelite replace my windshield, but they refused to replace it because of my cbi light brackets were in the way. Has anyone else had this problem? Or whether another shop had ever replaced it with the brackets in place?

I could see that. They will be in the way when trying to lift and lower the glass. They have to come straight on with it.

I've always wondered if the ditch light brackets would be an issue with something like this. Following to see what others experiences may have been.

    1. remove brackets
    2. have them replace windshield
    3. replace brackets

    done.

If they try to remove your accessories and do damage, they take liability and at best have to pay for repairs. That's bad business risk.

If they try to install around them and don't get a good seal, they have to warranty the work. They lose money again. Bad risk.

Their job is to do a straight forward windshield swap, beginning and end of their job. I'd do the same in their place. I'm a real estate broker. I get people all the time asking if I'll do repairs on their house to make it sell, especially since I can do pretty much everything including build the house to start with. For no extra pay. Just do 2 jobs and charge for 1. I always say no. I'm in business and getting sued if something goes wrong is bad for business.

I tell them I will do the work, but to work for someone besides myself I charge $10,000 an hour. How bad do you want me to be the one to do the work? That's no joke, it's the 'rate' I have told a LOT of people I would charge. But for some reason no one wants ME that badly.

Fawk I just found this out. Makes sense, I just rescheduled for next week and I'll take them off before I go this time. I knew it was a good idea to put quick disconnects on the wires:thumbsup:. The guy also asked if I could remove the snorkel. I told him to pound sand and work around it lol.

Geez. My Safelite guys worked around by snorkel without complaint. Removed my stickered GoPro mount AND my magnetic gps sticker with a razor blade and I got a two minute apology when they mangled the GPS sticker.

I work for Safelite as a mobile technician that goes and does the install on site. The tech is being lazy. There is no reason they shouldn’t be able to do it. Granted it make take a little more glass handling experience to get fitment correct. If he’s a newbie I can see it happening, if he’s a seasoned tech there should be no issue.

oof, had a nasty rock chip repaired by safelite today, the 1st chip in nearly 55k mostly highway miles on this windshield, doing DAMN good i would say!?
the guy repairing wanted to know where the old truck came from, i said right here, all day every day.. he could not honestly believe it
and if i had interest in selling it let him know
they even washed all of the bug splatter off the windshield and the rest ...and the mirrors are cleaner than before :)
