This not a tutorial on how to install (edit: pinouts in post #3), I'm sure there are plenty of tutorials on the net. Just showing how I installed mine. But I'll be happy to answer any questions if they come up.

The speed sensor signal wire runs from the speedo to the cluster & then to the ecu so couldn't make the connections for the speedo at the ecu, well on my 2001 at least. Could have done it at the cluster but that's too much work.

Engine harness goes through the firewall behind the glove box so I was hoping I could make my connections where the engine harness connects to the body harness. Removed the glove box & air bag cover & the connection was right there! Nice, I was expecting to have to work deeper inside the dash.

Soldered the connections, wrapped back up, & routed the cable for the DD.

Made a spacer for the cable, tinned & connected the wires to the DD, & attached some velcro.

Not sure what this little recess is for but it was the perfect spot for mounting. Slapped the other piece of velcro right there. This is where it will stay when not in use (calibrating).

Here's showing how I run the cable when I need to use it. Cable is long enough that it can sit on my passenger seat & of course so I can hold it in hand while driving.

Thanks for looking, time to go play!

I just bought one, what wires did you have to splice into?

On that big connector, pin 6 is for the speed sensor. I used pin 15 for key on power & pin 20 for ground. I made my connections on the body harness side.

Body harness side, on my truck the wire colors were green/red for pin 6 (vss), solid pink for pin 15 (key on +), & solid blue for pin 20 (ground). But be sure to double check yours in case the wire colors are different.

On the SGI-5E I'm using mode L-L & output 2 (oc) for the speed sensor.

    No problemo

You know what, come to think of it, I meant to set mine on mode L-L. In the manual it states Application 1 is H-H for 2 wire sensors & Application 2 is L-L for 2 or 3 wire sensors. Our speed sensor is 3 wire so I wanted to set it to L-L but I forgot.

I'm on my way home right now, I just pulled over & set it to L-L & nothing changed. Still works fine & still showing the same speed I calibrated.

When I get home I look in the FSM to see if it mentions anything about ppm signal range.

Ok H-H is for 32,000-250,000 ppm (high speed signal). L-L is for 4,000-32,000 ppm (low speed signal). I found online that someone with a 3.4 runner said his was 4,000ppm as well as on a Supra. Also found where someone stated that all Toyota speed sensors ar 4,000.

So it looks like L-L should be the one to choose. But what's weird is I've had mine on H-H up until today. I'll just leave mine on L-L & I'll edit my prev post.

I got all the way up to 85mph & it read fine just like it did on H-H. Easy to check but I don't feel like taking my speedo out again to do it.

Oh just to add, I had no idea I had a glove box light until I went to remove that panel. The bulb must have been burnt out for so long that either I don't remember or it was already blown when I bought it on '04.

When I searched to find out what bulb size it is, apparently I'm not the only who didn't know.

Just wanted to confirm the colors and locations on the pinout listed in post 3. My 2000 TRDOR MT has the same color and locations for these wires. Worked like a champ! Now my truck feels reeealy slow.
