The bike is one step closer to rideable again. I checked the valve clearances while it's apart. All are within spec. Also got the radiator back in.

I work in EMS and ride too. Glad you are ok, most accidents I work are a lot worse than that.

Do what the docs say and in a while, this will all be a distance memory you tell you friends at the bar.

My wife and I use Apple’s Sharing app. Also with my parents and her’s. It is a great piece of technology to check when someone is over do. I don’t think I would ride without someone being able to see where I am.

Keep posting pics of the bike’s rebuild. Also, if you need anything from AZ, let me know. We have bob’s motorcycle yard, I can pickup and ship.

For sure...I lucked out. I could have gone off the road and hit a guard rail or been run over or any number of things. Considering the guy hit me at 90 degree angle and I was going 60mph it could have been significantly worse.

I was riding a thousand miles a month between commuting and weekends. The day before I got hit I was telling a friend I felt like I was riding too much. It wasn't as fun anymore and too much time on the road to get hit.

Goddamn dude, glad you are alive and okay. Hope you heal up quickly, it sounds like you got very lucky though I'm sure it did not feel that way at the time. Props for full gear.

That's about how I feel at this point. Super lucky and looking forward to when this is a distant memory.

Finished putting new hoses on Taquito’s radiator and got it started. My friend test rode it for me. He’s a way better rider than I am plus I haven’t ridden in 3 months. It shifts and runs well. I ordered new forks, plastics, air filter and some other stuff. It needs a new rear tire as well. It’s worn out plus we found a nail in it.

Replacement fork legs showed up. The original forks have springs for a 200 pound rider. They're much firmer than the stock springs. I figured the replacements were used and could probably use a rebuild anyway.
When we opened them up there was very little, thick thick dark, cloudy oil in them. They got new seals, new bushings and of course new fork oil.
All that's left is taking the old fork legs off the bike, swapping the springs and re-installing. The bike will be rideable after that.

I also put a new rear tire on it. I got a Michelin Pilot Road 4 Trail to match the front tire.

How do you like the Road 4 trail? I am considering it for my GS.

I’ve been running the pilot road 4 front tire for awhile. I had Shinko 705’s for 28,000 miles. It’s much smoother than those. Before that I had a shitty 85’ YZF 600 with some kinda sport bike tire for about 6,000 miles. I’ve only been riding for 3 years so that’s ALL of my experience with tires.
So far I do like the front tire. I think front and rear I paid like $400 or something which is more than double the price of the shinkos.

Got the new rear tire mounted.

    bike.jpg

    And finished rebuild the fork.
    bike 2.jpg

I took it for a spin around the block. It rides straight and corners well. I'll see if I can get a pictured of the bent fork. The whole upper part of the fork has a nice bend to it.

Bought a new helmet. I have to say this thing is light years ahead of the Bilt I had before.
I might have been wearing it around the house the other day.

That’s good to hear! Compared to my old helmet this thing is magical. I’m so impressed with it. It fits like a glove, it’s super quiet, the action of the internal and external visors is super clean, the ventilation is off the charts and it’s much lighter.

With Taquito almost finished I spent some time on Taco.
    New SPC upper control arms.
The boots on the stock ones were ripped to shreds and the bushings were cooked.
    The install went very smoothly.
