209 TACOS - B/S and shenanigans

Hope everyone is doing well.

So I’ve had the Tacoma for a few weeks now. Got to cleaning it up. Here are some photos. Truck was stock when I got it. Still is stock for the most part. Working on it week by week fixing little things here and there. Don’t mind the rims, it’s rust. Have to wait for my tires to wear down before I get a new set of wheels/tires.

Speaking of rust. Anyone know a good place to take my truck for an exhaust job. I got a new catback exhaust but the bolts on my exhaust are rusted to the point that it looks it’s bonded together to the flange. I tried to get it apart and I think I stripped a bolt. I don’t have to tools to deal with that and I figure I should let a mechanic shop handle it.

Even if you don't have anything ready to do to your truck, you could come meet more of the group and hang out with us.

 

@TacoJohn4x4 that IS one clean truck...don't let the mod bug bite you though...I've only had mine for 4 months and I can't stop...

on a side note - are your front seats pushed up in the picture of your back seats folded down? That is a shit ton of room and in my 3rd gen it doesn't look that spacious. Maybe its the coloring of the seat.

I emailed him about his 1st gen bumper. I kind of like the style, and like the price even more! He seems like a really cool guy. He said he may be able to do better than the listed price if I pre-pay before the bumper is built. I'm thinking about approaching him with a group buy if we can get some others willing to commit to a bumper. He also does sliders and he carries the full line of Trail Gear. Being that he's within driving distance of most of us, we can cut out shipping (which could be a big added cost when dealing with this sort of item).

@Uphillshunter a lot of the lesser known shops can be a hidden gem. I contacted Stubbs Welding up north about some sliders but he said that since steel prices are going up he is going to have to close his shop down for a bit because he doesn't want to gouge prices for his customers.

That place looks legit and if he has some stuff that fits a 3rd gen I'd be interested in finding out more. I was looking at frame bracing as the part is relatively cheap. I don't think he has sliders that are plug n play for the 3rd gen taco, let alone a long bed but if hes willing to fab something up I would be interested in a group buy of some sorts.

 

I’ll look into it. Have to see how my schedule is for next month and if I can get away I’ll definitely come chill.

Thanks. I’m trying to take it easy with this project. Don’t want to bite off more than I can chew at one time. The truck mostly sits since I have multiple vehicles which is a good thing so I can take my time. As for the photos that is correct, some the seat is push forward while others the seat is push back for picture purposes lol.

Dinkin around the garage tonight. Figured I'd do something about cleaning up the spindles I'll be using for the 4x swap.

Here's what they looked like before:

Sprayed a bunch of this rustoleum rust remover on them:

Stuff works pretty good:

After I rinsed them off, I sanded them down to bare metal in most of the places where the gusset welds will contact.

@Radarninja... If you're still up to doing these things, I'd really appreciate it.

Great to hear from you again. Hope everything is back on track for you (or at least getting that way).

There will be another trip soon. We will definately post it up. Also, if you want to hang out with some of us, we'll be doing a "Mod day" lifting a couple trucks and some other stuff at my place next Saturday 8/4.
