I have zero experience with truck tires and am only picking up my Tacoma in September ('18 TRD OR)

Any recommendations for tires in a climate with 7-8 months of heavy snow, and months at a time in -58°F? In the summer itll likely be mud and gravel roads.

    Thanks in advance!

Moving here in September, and god no! I'll take no cell phones and little to no traffic over city life any day.

Only crappy thing is, 7 hrs each way to the nearest dealership.

Seems obvious to me, but why not ask other people in your area what tires they run? They might have the specific information you need. I'm sure the local people of Hoth would have better info than a bunch of strangers on the internet.

Not necessarily, people in Alaska would have an idea.

I only move here in September and plan on buying the tires before I go up. This forum knows way more about off road tires than the 2 coworkers I'll have up there.

By choice:facepalm: or punishment :frusty: ?
Not sure if a taco is a good choice. Have you considered a dog sled?

By choice . I like adventure. I actually pushed for years to get this spot! Water will be trucked to my house twice a month, no plumbing in the community. How cool is that!
Dog sleds would be a pain but people do use them.;)A bit further north anyway.

Not a problem. I'm bored as shit at work right now! For what it's worth, I've heard the name blizzak thrown around a lot when it comes to winter tires and have heard nothing but good things. Good luck!

I run Cooper ST Maxx in Fairbanks. Been in tons of snow, mud, gravel, dry conditions, basically everything you can put a tire through. Temperature ranges from -56° to +95°. They e held up well and are a good all around tire. A few friends run Cooper M&S with studs in the winter and have great traction on ice. The ST Maxx are good as long as you know the limits of the truck and brake/corner within them. I've never gotten stuck or not been able to get traction I'm the winter with them.

Blizzaks are great for lighter snow but don't have the aggressive tread that will keep you going if it gets deep and heavy. Quite common up here on cars and folks living in the city.

I'll let you know how they turn out! It apparently starts snowing in early October o_O (a week after I get the truck) so it wont be much of a wait.

Make sure the truck gets fully winterized also. Coolant drain and filled for below -60°, same for washer fluid. Engine block heater, oil pan heater, battery heater at a minimum. Add a transmission heater if auto and a trickle charger if you want to. A quality two way autostart will make your life much better. Silicone lube for the door and window seals or they will freeze up, antifreeze oil/lube in the door key holes if they still have those.
