I cut an old credit card into 4 pieces and slid them in the tab slots to loosen and cap popped right off

Took off the cap easy, pulled and that plastic end cap popped off, put the new filter on and done in about 7 mins. If you don’t have the torx like me, I used a 1/8” hex key. It’s not like you’re bolting something onto an airplane. It comes off very easily with the hex key.

What happens if this 'system' is simply disconnected?

Cap off the nipple on the engine side, unplug the harness, etc.

I'm assuming a CEL will fire off.

I've been told that you can't simply delete the system without complications, even when using the bypass options currently on the market. Those rely on the presence of the pump. With the bypass, you can delete the valves and cap them off, but the pump still needs to be present.

Maybe they are including dealer markup of the part and labor to swap out

$1400 was for replacement of the whole system before Toyota stepped up and started covering the whole thing.

So now part of the 8yr/80k emissions coverage?

Think I'll do the filter mod anyway. Keep OE filter and cap to return to stock if emissions warranty is needed or recall occurs.

Cause you know they would lay a failure at the feet of that uni filter. Just because they could.

I think the filter mod is well worth it. I think the slyfox75 mod is worth the $50 to avoid the hassle of the system failing. I need to pull that one off my 4.0 because it doesn't do anything on these models. I'm happy I did the filter mod though.

So I did this this evening. Slick. I'm saving the OE filter and intake cap, so if something else should fail with the pump system prior to my emissions warranty expiration I can return it to stock before my visit to the dealer.

Put it back. It makes a cleaner look to the device, but more importantly provides about a 270* splash shield for the filter. When reassembled it looks totally stock at a glance.

Very creative. I agree, I'd be reluctant to leave it totally exposed in a wet climate. But the factory lid covers it so well, I'd look for one if I were you. Maybe a pick & pull part?

I used 4 hooked paint can lid openers. When all positioned it just falls off. I could find those faster than pennies around my house. :D

My truck has few miles, but is approaching 7 physical years old. The OE foam was pliable, but dry. I prefer this filtration method over trying to disassemble and lubricate or replace the OE foam on a periodic basis.

I see Amazon is still out of stock. It was when I went to order last week. I got mine off eBay for a few cents difference in price with free shipping. It ships USPS from Ohio, 1st class, so it arrived in 2 days.

Anyone know if the secondary breather on the 3rd Gen 2.7 still uses a one-inch flange opening?

Did my filter mod last weekend! I guess I broke (cracked) the cover , the one with the single torx center bolt, when I removed it. Does anyone have one or know where I can find one? No luck on E-Pay and Toyota only sells it as a complete unit $500!

Did mine this weekend, too. My foam filter looked good for 50K but why take a chance?
