What do you guys think about this??? itd require me to get more front axle parts, but itd be easier to maintain and service than my current rear disc brake conversion that puts the rotor behind the wheel stud plate

That's beautiful, Timbo. It depresses me more than motivates me though, lol. Look at this beautiful D60 front axle! You'll never own one! Kinda like the guy from Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Seriously though, it's bad ass and aI can wait to see it in action.

 

I paid 450 for the axle and for peace of mind added everything and bought everything new. I could have ran the stuff that came on it but I don’t want to worry about something after I get done. The superduty axles are cheap compared to the older king pin.

Going to be heading down to one of my favorite places for vacation with the family next week - Destin, Florida. Can't wait! I'm fairly familiar with the area, but was wondering if there were any spots to check out that someone not from the area wouldn't know about?
Also, my dad and I were thinking of trying to get some fishing in while we were down there. We've gotten screwed on a bay fishing charter while down there before (dude ran out of gas mid trip. Completely unprofessional. Barely caught any fish worth keeping.) but would love a suggestion for a boat - deep sea or bay.

Being on a fixed income kinda sucks. I'm saving my ass off for a $300 crossmember. Honestly, I probably would have had it by now if I hadn't needed a bunch of stuff off Kyle's 4Runner to used as spares for mine. The door lock actuators are ridiculously expensive even for after market ones. Plus I got a lot of spare parts that may or may not come in handy someday so it was worth it. It just set me back on the crossmember fund and my regear fund currently has $40 out of the $2k I need to make it happen, thanks to the $75 I had to spend at the machine shop to press in my new wheel bearing.

Danke, Gott in Himmel! I finally got the post season cleaning done, plus a few long outstanding repairs: new LCAs,, new passenger wheel bearing and inner axle seal, armored radiator, scan gauge installed. I had no idea how bad my LCA bushings were. They are all completely torn free from the outer cup and sloppy as hell. I bet the truck is going to ride like a Caddy now. I honestly expect all the weirdness I've been dealing with to vanish once it's aligned. I honestly don't think I'll be that lucky, but I bet a lot of bullshit goes away.

Anyway here's some clean and dirty pics...

Oddly enough, I was able to remove the drums by hand, no hammer, bolts, and I didn't even have to back the shoes off. Forgot to check if the self adjusters were doing their thing though while I had the drums off.

Here's the front all clean. No before shots though since I was too busy working on it...



It only took me a month into summer to finally get around to all this.

Oh, I forgot one...the mess I had to clean up...

Went junkyard hopping and scored s 94 4Runner ifs gear box. Need to have it blasted, gut it so I can drill and tap it for hydro assist and rebuild it.

Just at thought , but If they are going to charge you a ridiculous amount let me know. I can blast it where I work with 220 Aluminum oxide grit. All you would have to do is cover shipping.

On the engine stand so I can tinker with it. Getting it there without an engine hoist was both surprisingly easy and quite an adventure.

Number 6 Cylinder. Note it still has the crosshatching from the factory hone even after 127K. I've never seen the like in any other 100k + motor I've taken apart. No wonder you can get 300K out of the things.



No. 2 cylinder, the fun killer. I'm almost tempted to have them bore it out and see how much rust pitting is left.

 

.40 over, cams, pistons, burn outs

 

Is that all you're allowed with the 5VZ. If I took it .060" over, I'd have a 3.5L. Not sure what they offer in the way of bigger cams or higher compression pistons, but I probably couldn't afford it anyway, haha. Sort of like the supercharger for it. For the cost of that, I could either have my regear or maybe even a crawl box and I wouldn't need the extra power.
